saskhab
Everyone was waiting for Markov to sign to "set the bar" for negotiations with d-men. Once guys hit the open market, teams eventually paid more because they were in direct competition with each other. But back to the topic at hand... I'm not too worried about a Kostitsyn poaching. I might be if it's July 4th or so and there's no deal, and a few of the other guys "ahead" of him are under contract, notably the offensive players like Carter and Perry. JMMR
He was certainly lower on the radar than Rafalski and Timmonen. Yeah he was because he signed before the 1st and it was well known he wanted to stay.
Neech
Yeah he was because he signed before the 1st and it was well known he wanted to stay. I think he was anyway. I sure as hell doubt he could have netted one million more per season on the open market, maybe after this season but not last summer. We gave him the upper end of what he could have earned (or what we could have signed him for) just like we do for all our players. Gainey never gets a steal, except with RFAs, who are ridiculously underpaid.4 Edited March 7, 2008 by JMMR
