chief_balthor
Habs have signed Robert Mayer to a 3 year contract. http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/story/2008...iens-mayer.html
markierung
Probably destined for the ECHL with Dens/Halak and Desjardins playing in the Bulldogs
saskhab
Probably destined for the ECHL with Dens/Halak and Desjardins playing in the Bulldogs He could still go back to the QMJHL, as he's only 19, just like Michaud did when the Habs signed him back at the 2001 training camp after being an undrafted invite. If they had let him return without a contract, come spring, he could've signed with any NHL team as a free agent. The Habs are just jumping the gun here since they didn't have exclusive rights to him, and they obviously see good upside in him.
Athlétique.Canadien
I bet that Timmins and company noticed him when scouting Weber at the IIHF Juniors. He was the Swiss goalie in the tourney. Even though the Swiss team was a weak team whenever a player makes the IIHF it's respectable. Good move by the Habs' brass. Sir_Boagalott
Sounds like a smart move to me. Apparently he has dual citezenship - Suis + Czech. There are several really good Czech goalies and players so there must be a fairly good development system in Czech Republic. Even if Mayer is down the list to be the #1 Czech goalie he will most likely be near the top of Suis list so either way he should be able to get international experience.
