simonus
I linked to this site earlier, but I thought I'd post a link to this particular article. It attempts to address the inadequacy of the win stat for goalies and tries to define a "quality win" to give a better idea of when a goalie is doing his job. This basically comes from the quality win stat now gaining prominence in baseball circles to help in pitcher evaluation (wins as a measurement of pitcher and goalie performance and both horrendously flawed). The math/theory behind the attempt is pretty simple and frankly obvious, but I think it's worth a read. http://www.puckprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=
