dlbalr
Better now than the end of the season.... I guess. Well, we had 7 D, and now we have 6, so not biggy. I could see Weber or Carle getting a call up if the team decides they need a PP specialist though, since most of our guys are more defensive minded on the back end. So would I, although there's a lot of cap implications that need to be considered. The bonus cushion, LTIR (this is where I fear they'll go - more work for me), dropping a forward off the roster to bring up a d-man. I wouldn't complain if they waived Stewart and used his $500,000 to call a d-man up - they'd only slightly be over the cap that way and could get creative to wiggle around that. rafikz
apparently RDS is now saying 3-4 months. Well Spacek will now have the opportunity to play on the left side; he should be able to do the job

KoZed
Hamrlik - Spacek Gill - Mara Gorges - O'Byrne Habs will need to bring a D-man up anyway, so I'm guessing Weber
JCPetit
Looks like Weber will be getting a long term look now. He's going to have to quarterback the powerplay. Carle will be the first to be recalled.
BTH
I suppose we can always convince Brisebois to come out of retirement. I guess it could help us bring in a guy like Sharp, but it's a d-man we need now!

Given the way the Habs are working financially this season, it was only a matter of time before injuries started to become the monkey wrench in the big money machine. I just didn't expect it to start game 1... lol I suppose we can always convince Brisebois to come out of retirement. I guess it could help us bring in a guy like Sharp, but it's a d-man we need now! Sharp?
Habsfan
Well, we are officially ######ed! Markov gone for 3 to 4 months with a torn ligament in his ankle! Here's the RDS article! http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/283502.html
BTH
Sharp? Rumours that the Blackhawks were interested in Sergei, and trying to dump Patrick Sharp's salary.
Quebecois
Ughhh. I think we are much better equipped to deal with this injury this season but man, 4 months would take us up to February. Not sure if we can stay afloat for that long to be honest.

I fear that Stewart would be claimed off waivers. This is my fantasy situation, I think it makes some sense: Demote Pacioretty, promote Weber or Carle. Trade Sergei+ for Sharp (to take Pac's spot). Markov would need to be on the LTIR to open up the cap space. Then I would spread around the talent on the D, as I don't trust Mara-Gill or Gorges-O'Byrne as pairings. Mara-Spacek Hamrlik-O'Byrne Gorges-Gill Carle/Weber IMO these are much safer combinations.

dlbalr
I fear that Stewart would be claimed off waivers. If he's claimed, so be it - you can't let worries about losing a 5th line forward to waivers preclude you from bringing someone up to play 16-18 minutes a game. This is my fantasy situation, I think it makes some sense: Demote Pacioretty, promote Weber or Carle. Trade Sergei+ for Sharp (to take Pac's spot). Demoting Pacioretty would be even better, however, there's 1 possible flaw in your scenario. Trading Sergei + ___ for Sharp is all well and good but he has a hefty cap hit. As funny as is sounds, bringing Sergei back up would actually really help the cause here because of the smaller cap hit and bonus cushion. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
This is an unmitigated disaster. We'll be lucky to make the playoffs now for sure...and if so then Bob will be lucky to keep his job. And if Markov is permanently damaged, then we can add him to this list: -Donald Audette -Saku Koivu -Robert Lang Premium talents all, their careers compromised or ended by insane injuries. The consequences, as Rene Levesque once said, could be incalculabe. In the short term, everything hinges now on Spacek in particular stepping up and playing for us like he did for Buffalo last season. In the long term, everything hinges on Makov making a full recovery. UNBELIEVABLY BAD LUCK.
brobin
Toronto is just bad mojo...... I am bummed as Markov was our main offensive weapon on the point plus he could start the rush. Without him our Defense just got even slower. I sure hope the team can suck it up and keep us in the playoff race in the first half... I also hope Markov is a quick healer... lazy26
i have markov in my pool I have him in 2. I'm just hoping that a) Andrei makes a full recovery, and b) by the time he returns, we're still afloat... Good thing we've got some depth on D. Get better Markov! PS - I'm of the mind that Weber gets the call before Carle. We need someone to QB the PP.
bar
Any interest ya think for maybe PK Subban? Or is this way too early to be mentioning him?
Toronthab
Totally different team, even though defensively they looked the same as last year. Well, its not right up there with starving children on the 'serious ' list, but a little prayer for les Boys is probably not the worst thing one can do. So, amen. Colin
Well, after watching last night's game, I have to say this about Markov's injury: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (because really, what else can you do but laugh?) Other than Markov, our defense was, by and large, pathetic. Big, lumbering, hideously slow, incapable of making a pass on the tape of a player. 46 shots against and when TO gained the zone, they completely dominated us down low. The ONLY thing Gill was good for was clearing the net - big whoopee. Coverage was poor to non-existant and without Markov... we're toast. Smell that? Burnt toast, Dr. Penfield, burnt toast! Honestly, that is one of the worst defense corps I've seen. And now it's without the only player that made it worth watching. (I realize it was only one game, but a guy has to allow a little passion into observation, right?)
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
I'd have Weber ahead of Subban on my depth chart at this stage. At least he has some bona-fide NHL experience and looked pretty good. The only plus side here is that by facing an unholy crisis of this kind, this early in the season, these players could be forced to come together a lot more quickly and intensely than before. Everyone will realize that with the Key Cog out of the lineup for an extended period, they're facing total debacle unless everyone raises their game. It's just possible that this will be the magic bullet that creates the "chemistry" we need: desperation. Nonetheless, anyone who had the Habs finishing 6-8 has to adjust their predictions downwards at this point. :puke: Based on Bob's pattern of behaviour since 2007, he will not sit around but will make a deal for help on D. Watch for one or both of the Kostitsyns to be shipped out of town in return for a blueliner.
