Markov Countdown

Players around the NHL as dropping like flies (Gonchar and Savard last night)... hopefully Markov is our only major injury.

You make a great point. The Markov injury is increasingly irrelevant given that 1/2 the league's key players (Daniel Sedin, Savard/Lucic, Gonchar, Souray, Arnott, Kessel, Elias, Lehtonen, etc., etc., etc.) are also hurt. Perversely this is good luck for ye Habs - it levels the playing field.

There is always a silver lining to our current standings. So what you are suggesting is that we encourage further injuries to everyone but the Canadiens, there by increase our odds at winning... hrm.. sounds like a plan to me.

GO GOONS GO!

Someone on the broadcast of tonight's game mentioned Markov was on track for a late january return. Apparently he plans on going to the olympics. That would be around game 45 or 50 for the Habs I think?

Can't remember who it was, but I do think it was on TSN (I switched from RDS to TSN midway due to english room mates), so it could be crap.

I dunno, but he'd BETTER not come back for the Olympics at under 100% and risk re-injury.

Love that old Minnesota North Stars logo Seb. Nice one.

Thanks! I run Minnesota in HWL, plus I dug it up when Gainey took over as coach last season, seeing as it was the last place he had coached before Montreal. And seeing as he eventually won the cup as GM of Dallas, I guess it was some sort of good luck charm. And I haven't gotten around to changing it since. Oh Well.

After the Habs, they were always my next-favourite team (back in the old days).

I mentioned before if we could have one of those counters (like the one for the Vanc Olympics) You know where we can vote on putting the time countdown of the most wanted event to arrive or dreaded even...) installed in Habsworld that would be kool imo

When Markov does get back it leaves us with a whole bunch of defensemen. I wonder who sits? I suspect that Martin will dress 7 of them and use MAB as a PP specialist.

Markov

O'Byrne

Mara

Gorges

Hamrlik

Bergeron

Gill

Spacek

Who sits when everyone is healthy?

More than likely, someone else will be injured. If not, look for Bergeron to take the place of whichever forward is struggling.

I heard the same thing. It was McGuire who said that. Sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

Yeah. If nobody is injured, I'd expect MAB on the 4th and Gill to sit most of the time.

If Bergeron can keep up his play and can be locked up long term at a reasonable price, I wonder if Weber is used in a trade package. He probably has limited value, but he is looking more and more likely like a guy who, if he ever gets a permanent spot in the NHL, will be essentially a PP specialist. Once you have Markov, Bergeron, and Spacek, do you really need a Weber? Especially if in 1-2 yrs PK can do the job and actually play 5 on 5 minutes?

I don't think we can say for certain that P.K. is going to be as good as some are projecting him to be. Now that he's in the pro ranks, he's lost some of that extra step he had on other players in junior. We'll have to see him prove himself in the AHL before we can really say he'll be an NHLer. Weber and Subban were both 2nd rounders, both were their teams' top defensemen at the Memorial cup (the same year, with Weber's Kitchener Rangers defeating Subban's Belleville Bulls in the OHL Championship) and both are speedy and offensive minded. Weber has proven himself, Subban hasn't. I wouldn't be so quick to put Subban ahead of Weber. At least not yet.

I'm not sure Gill would get sent to the press box before O'Byrne... especially come playoff time. O'Byrne started off the season much stronger than last and I'm not the hugesssssst of Gill fans but (though he has his positives)..... but do you really think so?

Yea, Gill won't be sitting. MA Bergeron probably won't be sitting, Gorges and O'Byrne look to be on men out when and if he returns this year. It was a major injury, i expect he won't be skating well until next year.

I know this is supposed to be a thread about Markov, but I just found this little tid bit about O'Byrne on RDS.ca

It basically says that O'Byrne is making some good progress. For the 3rd time since his injury against the Sabres, O'Byrne skated alone before the rest of the team. O'Byrne is hoping to make a comeback towards the middle of November!

Good news!
