Guys, Gauthier will trade Gill, but he'll target a very specific team to get what should fall between the 44th and 47th OA pick. That's the pick he wants, so that's the pick he gets, and it's laudable for Gauthier to always get what he wants - nothing less ... and nothing more.

And Pierre Lebrun will report that another GM told he that he he had no idea that this UFA to be, on a horrid hockey club was available, and will wonder why Gauthier never called him.

When it came to the Halak trade, I believe Gauthier had a very specific kind of player he wanted and spoke to maybe a couple teams who had that sort of player he wanted. I don't think he shopped Halak everywhere and even if he had, I don't know if he would have got a better return. He wanted a skilled center prospect with size and he got one. Quite happy with Eller. Velvet hands.

When it came to the Cammalleri trade, I think Gauthier wanted to keep it quiet that he was trying to trade him. Tell a limited amount of GMs and go with it. It was probably also done to minimize the media circus that would have come around if Gauthier publicly shopped him. I don't see Montreal getting a better return for Cammalleri for where his game was at. My problem will always be trading him mid-game against the Bruins.

I still think the Halak trade was awful, considering that the Caps got two 1st rders for Varlamov, and Halak was and is much better. Not impressed with Eller,4 goal game or not.A guy I think could bring something decent back in a trde package.

Denies rumors that

a) Price was offered 49 million over 7 years by the Habs

and

b) He made a counter offer of 10 years 70 million.

he says that these offers are completely false.

Way,way too much money for a goalie. And until he can steal a playoff series or two, there is no reason to give him such a long contract. He's good, not great. He's an RFA so he's not going anywhwere. I'd give him around $5m for 2-3 yrs. Another cap strangling contract is the last thing this team needs.

They got a first round pick and a conditional second. That's more similar to what we would have got for Price. Halak, even with his post-season performance, was considered an unproven goaltender and his size was considered a question mark for him. History has proven those GMs right as he is unquestionably a starting goaltender but he's platooning in St. Louis just like he did in Montreal because he can't really handle the pressure of a starter schedule.

As for goalie money, people need to stop thinking this is 2005-2006. Price is great and there's a good reason why teams had more interest in him than Halak after the 08-09 post-season run. Price deserves every penny he asks for.

didn't Rinne just get $7M/7 yrs. I don't remember him ever going deep into the playoffs. Yes he was a ufa and not an RFA, but given all the crap Price has to put up here, the french-english questions/gong show, do you really seeing him resign as a UFA, if he isn't locked up??

Exactly. I'm shocked that Price could ever love Montreal or even want to re-sign. The fans here have for the most part been brutal to him. Most goalies don't start receiving consideration of being a starter until they reach 24. At 24, Price has been a starter/1b for four seasons, deep into his fifth. That's ridiculous.

If Price wants to stay in Montreal long-term he's a bigger person than I am. If I was in his skates I'd be looking for the quickest contract to get me into UFA status.

What? That's kind of silly. This is one of the better places to play. So what if he got booed a few times. When he walks the streets, drinks in a bar, eats in a great restaurant, he's treated like royalty. He'll sign here for a long time, just like Gorges did.

I think Price will get the money of a top ranked goal tender, If Rinne received $7M then Price should be there with him although I do not usually like long term contracts for any player but my gut tells me Price would be worth the chance.

Price was reportedly ecstatic NOT to be traded when the Halak deal went down. I think he likes Montreal and recognizes that for him to win here would be the ultimate. Unless he sees an organization in total disarray, not just right now but going forward, I think he'll want to lock up. This doesn't mean he won't drive a hard bargain though.

He's still restricted at season's end so I wouldn't imagine he can demand that much. I'd expect a 2 year contract somewhere from 3m-4m per year. The reason for this would be so when his contract expires Gomez's contract will be expired, making the money available to give him a big, long-term deal. If I were the GM I'd forward this plan to Price's agent, which should help in the negotiations.

I would happily sign either of those. The Habs should take his offer and run with it. When the cap is at $100M and he's making a comparable pittance, we'll look like geniuses. And if there's one thing I think we can actually bank on: Price is the real deal.

I agree that Price is the real deal but, IF these numbers are true, I find $7 mil to be WAY too much money for Price at this age. Then again, if they are talking about a 7-10 year deal, and buying his UFA years, maybe they structure something with a $7 mill cap hit which is cheaper up front, real expensive in the middle, and then real cheap at the end.

Who knows.

I don't mind having a long term contract for Price and locking him in as the future of the team, but the $ value on this rumours bothers me.

10 years for a goalie is a long time but if he really wants the money and to stay in Montreal I would say do it.

He better know as soon as he signs that deal the pressure would be even more insane.

The thing I would say is encouraging about this rumours is that they are negotiating term, and not dollars. That's a good thing.

IF this is true, maybe Montreal agrees to the 10 years but pulls it back to $6.5 mil per?

We will have to agree to disagree.

I really think Gill will garnish a very low first rounder.

As for Weber he is the same age as PK I really would not trade him unless it was overpayment at this stage.

I think Gill would fetch a 2nd with an outside chance of netting a late 1st rounder. If sold to the right team (cough, cough Chicago), at the right time, he will be a valuable commodity.

Kamal gotta disagree with Gill. I think if a team offers a 1st round pick for him then that GM should be fired on the spot.

Gill is tremendously valuable as a PK specialist but there is no way he would fetch a 1st rounder. A late second rounder I can see unless a deal is made that is bigger than just 1 guy.

And in regards to that offer....at $6.5 no way. Guys who sign the long term deals take a reduction per season and $6.5 is already among the top paid in the league.

If he wants 10 years then perhaps we go for it but it better be in the $5.0 to $6.0 million range and aboslutely nothing more.

Yea, no kidding, you would be lucky to get a third for Gill by himself.

he can't even play top 6 minutes on a really bad defensive team.

The only person who can land a first is Pleks, don't think they'll move him.

Moen definitely a second, maybe a first if a team needs a 3rd line LW to put them over the top.

Ak46 will get a 2nd.

I think we have a few that could land a first. Pleks, Subban, Price, and Patches if they were to be traded for picks, would all land at least 1 first, probably some consideration picks and/or 2nd/3rd rounders. Giving up any player that is 25 or younger and is playing on top lines for anything less than a first pick value is unrealistic.

No way, just no way. Molson is a fool if he allows this to continue. Anyway, I think he probably is regardless. It's not like he built the brewery himself. He's a rich kid with a toy.
