dlbalr
I can't see the Habs wanting to trade for either one but Edmonton's GM all but said today that Ales Hemsky and Shawn Horcoff are two players he'd like to see move on. Maybe Hemsky at a cheap price (assuming it's a cap dump) depending on what the UFA market winds up costing? I suspect we'll see a lot of these types of players hitting the trade block in the near future since we're less than a month away from the buyout process beginning. "Sometimes change is good for both the organization and the player, but at the same time they're valuable players and we're not in a position where we're able to move them without getting something substantial in return...I have a lot of allegiance and a lot of loyalty to 'Horc' and to Ales. I have a lot of respect for both those players. But from both those perspectives, I think the ideal scenario would be to move them on and wish them the best in their next destination." http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=424887
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
It'll be a banner year for reclamation projects, that's for sure; there will be some useful players bought out or else nor re-signed due to the shrinking cap. Hopefully the Habs's pro scouting is where it needs to be and we can scoop up a valuable addition or two. Hemsky, though? Yikes.
Commandant
Hemsky is talented but SOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF If we needed pure talent, I would say yes, but given the team we have, we don't need a talented perimeter guy. Horcoff I gotta think is swapped for another bad contract or amnestied.
hab29RETIRED
Hemsky and Horcoff sound like deals Gainey would make. Players well past their best before dates.
Machine of Loving Grace
There is no player in the history of hockey given more excuses for his performances than Ales Hemsky.

nihilz
I'd rather see Hemsky/Havlat on a line with Plek and Bork rather than Gio. When have the Habs ever had an established Czech winger to work with Plek and exploit his offensive ability? Imo soft or not, its an avenue I personally hope they explore. Commandant
Plekanec has never played with either of those guys. Just because they are from the same country doesn't mean they will have chemistry. Plek has always been with Cervenka and Jagr at World Championships/Olympics etc.... not sure who the third guy was this year with Jagr in the playoffs, but pretty sure it wasn't Hemsky. Never implied otherwise. Although, Im of the opinion that making guys feel at home should be a priority, not the priority per say. For example, getting Boedker or Hansen to play with Eller. Able to speak his native tongue on and off the ice. Would be a benefit imo. Same with Plek, who hasn't had anyone to chat in Czech with since Hamr & Spacek. These are aspects that are not vital but, imo make a difference. For example, if Markov were not a Hab, would Emelin be here? Just an aspect to chew on that I feel is pertinent. All in all chemistry is a funny thing..

Guest Stogey24
Would really love to see Jagr and plek together. Jagr may not be burying the puck right now, but man oh man can he ever set a play up. I think he's for sure a guy montreal should put back on their radar.
Guest Stogey24
There has been a lot of talk lately of Montreal dangling Markov out there as some trade bait. I'm sure nothing comes of it. Time will tell I guess
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Jagr should have been signed last summer. Dumbest non-move of MB's tenure so far. As for trading Markov, I won't get into the debate, but if Bergevin feels it's for the best, he's banked enough cred that I'll grudgingly go along with it - assuming we get excellent value back. Guest Stogey24
Your right no need to start that debate again. Jagr is a force. Asking price was a bit high but he is truly worth it. Very dangerous player.
dlbalr
Jagr should have been signed last summer. Dumbest non-move of MB's tenure so far. It sounds like he may not have an opportunity to try and sign him for next season (I don't think I'd want him, personally). Reports are that he is in talks to return to the KHL next year. Also, something worth keeping an eye on is the closing of the European transfer window (June 15th, it applies to players presently under contract in one of the leagues out there). The Habs are still linked to that Austrian goalie for some reason, he'll need to sign by then as far as I know. There are a few others presently linked to 'undisclosed NHL teams' as well. dlbalr
Money, and possibly to be closer to home. Plus less of a strenuous schedule. The KHL season is spread out a lot more meaning it's a lot less hectic than the day-to-day life of an NHL'er. In Jagr's case, it's probably better suited to him as for the second straight year, he has run out of gas in the playoffs.

dlbalr
From Pierre LeBrun of TSN/ESPN: If the Blackhawks are unable to re-sign him, and I’m not saying they won’t, but if Bickell does end up in the market, keep an eye on the Montreal Canadiens. GM Marc Bergevin knows Bickell from Bergevin's days in the Chicago front office and was part of the scouting staff that recruited Bickell. I’m told the Habs covet Bickell, who would bring them the kind of size they’re looking to add for their top-six group, although I don’t think Montreal will overpay, either, with a contract that tips the scales. Still, there’s definitely interest from the Habs. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/25284/rumblings-whos-staying-and-whos-going Also, no link for this one but it appears that scout Ryan Jankowski has indeed landed the Hockey Canada head scouting job. He is at their goaltending development camp at the moment and the speculation is that it could be made official sometime next week.

I know he's had a great playoff run, but does anyone think Bickell is really top 6 material? Top 9 for sure, but I wouldn't want to pay Top 6 money for someone who has never scored 20 goals in a year.

In a cap world, you can't risk giving term and high dollar value. Now, I would risk giving him around $3.5M longer term (at that rate, I think the hawks will resign him), but I think someone out there will cough up $5M+.
