BlueKross
We all like what Moen brings even with his projected diminishing returns. Moen; quite frankly, is not a high end guy no matter how you cut it. If there is a younger version that fits you would be crazy not to look at it. But I don't think those players are vying for Moen's spot - they're battling for 2nd and 3rd line duty with Sekac (who I predict will make the team regardless). I'd rather MB keep Moen around incase of an injury to Weise or Prust.

hab29RETIRED
"Seriously close Source" has told Ekland that Letang going to Habs! So done deal, who is going the other way? hahaha Only way the habs would have any interest in Letang would be if they felt Letang was too expensive and would rather have a $7.5M letang, because they feel they can't get Subban for under $9.5M. I can't imagine ANYONE that would even consider moving Subban for Letang though. Frankly, I'd even have to think really hard about Subban for Malkin now. It's just to hard to get a Dman who can be considered top 5 in the league and is just ENTERING his prime. It's funny how many Leafs and Habs rumours Ekland comes up with. I can't remember even one that materialized!

habs rule
You don't have to go back far. He actually broke the Briere to Colorado trade I do believe. He also says his second favorite team is The Habs. He claims to have great contacts. But this sounds way out in left field. I guess they could make it happen under the cap but, but who goes the other way? It sure as hell isn't Subban. Or else MB will be looking for a platoon of body guards to assist him in any endeavor including going to the bathroom. I think this is one of EK's I 'm bored lets stir up some shit and he has. good for him. still at a 1.28 % accuracy rating.
JGC21
"Seriously close Source" has told Ekland that Letang going to Habs! So done deal, who is going the other way? hahaha This rumour obviously comes from some jackass reading into the 'Subban going to arbitration conundrum' and thinks Zoot Suit may cut his losses and deal Subban for Letang+. There's no way MB makes this trade unless its Subban for Letang and Kunitz. Even still...
hab29RETIRED
You don't have to go back far. He actually broke the Briere to Colorado trade I do believe. Most of Ekland's "insider" sources are other journalists published reports. This one probably came out of a TVA interview with Letang that said that Montreal was one of the 15 teams on his list of teams that he would accept a trade to. Most of his great rumours don't even make any sense.

Most of his great rumours don't even make any sense. My guess is that the TVA one is where this particular tidbit is coming from as well. If Bergevin is covering his bases (as any GM should), he should be gathering info about the availability of certain blueliners should Subban talks go completely south. It doesn't mean that he'd want to trade Subban or that talks or going badly of course, just that he's doing his homework. Letang would probably be one of those players if he is looking at what the replacement cost could potentially be.
DON
Pens do have several young d-prospects, like Pouliot, Harrington and Pens have several big contracts and Letang might be expendable for them? But cant see Subban going anywhere or being part of any deal. Can a team even trade a 8 year contracted player before contract even begins?
hab29RETIRED
Yes, I believe before July 1, they could have traded him anywhere, but are now limited to the teams on his NTC list. The flyers are famous for signing guys to long-term deals and trading them. It also looked like the leafs were trying to trade Phaneuf before his new 7 yr ripoff deal kicked in. Machine of Loving Grace
I would take Letang for Gilbert/Bourque/Moen. Otherwise he breaks our cap and I could care less.
Colin
Please stop reading Eklund. When traffic for his site is down, he posts ludicrous rumours regarding Habs and Leafs. That's how he keeps traffic high! Do not fret at reading what was there. Captain Zoot will inquire about many great players because he's a GM and it's his job to do so; there is nothing more to this story. EDIT: yes there is: GM's know Eklund's status as rumour-bearer and *use* him to test the waters and to unsettle players/teams. Eklund knows he's used in this political game, but it's fine by him because he makes money out of it. EDIT #2: Allegedly. Everything I say is allegedly. It's all my opinion. There, no libel. Machine of Loving Grace
Eklund survives on his Philly/new York sources, hence why he was so vocal about Briere's time in Montreal and knew about the trade rumours surrounding him but not say where Gorges was going. Since Danny was a former Flyer he still had some connected sources close to him. Otherwise, a lot of his rumours are just Al Strachan style shots in the dark. It's actually funny when people say Eklund could never exist in the pre-Internet age when Strachan got one trade right (Gretzky to the Blues) and every other one wrong yet still kept a broadcast career for a decade. dlbalr
From today's 30 Thoughts column from Friedman (the last one before next season): One of the more interesting rumours out there was Montreal, looking for size up front, asking Toronto about Joffrey Lupul. The Canadiens are not among the teams Lupul has blocked, so it could have been done. Ultimately, it sounds like the Maple Leafs will keep him. Can you replace a 25-goal scorer for $5.25 million, his current cap hit? That's a good number. By all accounts, this wasn't the Gorges deal. Franson was the one reported to be going the other way there. Also, a tidbit on Markov/Gionta: The Canadiens negotiated with Andrei Markov for five months before signing him, meaning one thing: they looked at every possible option not to do it, because they were so nervous about the third year. But, Marc Bergevin decided to go ahead, because they know Markov. If you're going to risk it, he's said before, go with the risk you know, not the one you don't. It hurt them with Brian Gionta, but Bergevin wasn't going to do it twice. http://www.cbc.ca/sports-content/hockey/opinion/2014/07/30-thoughts-nhl-defenceman-cash-in-on-free-agent-frenzy.html
Machine of Loving Grace
I have a feeling the Lupul talk was before acquiring Parenteau. They both fit the "Second line right wing" label.

Even after seeing Vanek shit the bed in the playoffs, I still would have signed him for what Minni gave him. That top line of Vanek-DD-Pac had some serious chemistry in the regular season.
