Dont see a reason to waive Armia.  Hes playing hard.  Lack of scoring isnt lack of effort.

Dvorak can go.

Armia spins his wheels grinding the boards and is unable to create chances from all that work.

I don’t think he makes this team better

The same question as with Evans: who would be equally capable on the PK1 unit?

Hes a strong defensive player on a team that lacks them.

Or at least not their contracts ... if they were terminated I expect somebody would roll-the-dice on an NHL minimum contract offer.

Why would we terminate end buy out contracts that are expiring?

I DID NOT suggest that ... I was emphasizing that EVEN if they were bought out, they would get NHL minimum contracts at best.

Both of them would clear waivers. Meaning nobody will even take them for free

That’s not entirely true.  A team that couldn’t afford the contract may want either of them.  It’s happened before, players clearing waivers, but a trade happening for that player because of a money in, money out situation.

Yes this is a fair statement.

I do expect Armia to get a contract somewhere next season, I just hope it isn’t in Montreal

Armia's next contract will be a $1m or less, easily able to bury for any team.  At that price, I wouldn't be opposed to re-signing him.  That being said, he will probably take less than a potential offer from Montreal to have a fresh start somewhere else.

Or he might be happy in Montreal and take less than he could get on the open market.

Armia doesn't talk a lot, and certainly not to the media, so it's pretty hard to tell what he wants to do.

if the offer is under $1M, he will probably just go to Europe for more money.

Armia last year had career high in goals (17) in 66 games.

$1m sounds crazy talk, isnt it?

It's always hard to say. A guy like Daniel Sprong who has been more consistent offensively had to settle for under a million. However Armia is much more responsible defensively and might appeal more to a contending team looking for a 2 way player they can trust.  Depends on the market at the time which is hard to predict.

I could see a team like Colorado picking up Armia on waivers if the cap fits.

On waivers?

Colorado won't have the cap space (unless the make some trades) Nikushkin has to be activated in the next couple weeks and that's going to eat up a ton of what they have.

Well... people in here saying none of Armia and Dvorak would be claimed off waivers if we were to send them down.

I think a team that is a contender and want to replace a long term injured player for free could take a flyer on Armia if he was up to grab.

Most or maybe all contending teams are tight to the cap. It would be too early to take on his salary unless they could dump a similar dead weight contract. There may be a chance at moving him at the deadline (with retention) but not before.

Dvorak waived sure, dont think Armia will be.

If he was, some team may grab him.

I think there is almost a  zero chance Dvorak would get claimed. Armia would have a slightly better chance to be claimed because he is making 1M less and he is likely more highly valued after his finish last year.

A dark horse to claim him might be a team like Columbus who has over 20M in cap space and might have visions of a wild card spot. If it doesn't work out for them they could dump him at the deadline. It looks like they just have 1 retention spot as well.

Unfortunately Armia went back to his old self again this season.

More the 10g/season guy, than 17.

I know I’m hard on Armia (maybe too much so) but the frigging guy has really good offensive skills.

He just doesn’t use them very often.

The frustration is worse because he had his trip to Laval and that lit a fire under his ass and Armia produced.

His fire has gone out and he is back to being a grindy defensive forward instead of a two way player.

So yeah a 10 goal season maybe 😤

I don't blame the guy, he is constantly criticized by fans and he knows he is clearly not part of the team's plans for the future. He is clocking in/out until his fate is sealed.

He is a sitting duck before layoffs (the rebuild) are done

I-M-O, if he can't handle fans' criticism THAT is a problem, not an excuse ... and if he is moping rather than trying to build a case for another team to trade for him this season or sign him in July then THAT is also a problem, not an excuse ... he has always been a player of unrealized offensive potential that bedazzled GMs, and who with rare exceptions seems to be satisfied to be an overpaid role player ... and both problems are, I-M-O, a red flag for all 32 NHL teams ... unfortunately, the Habs are already stuck with him.
