Prime Minister Koivu
I don’t think Montreal has the assets to make this trade - at least no assets that we are willing to trade. Would be nice though

Commandant
https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/3302830 Leafs and John Tavares are far apart in extension talks. Apparently the Leafs have him at close to the 4.5m Duchene signed for, while Johnny is looking at the $7.5 million that Brock Nelson got. I'd be fully comfortable giving him 3 years and 7.5 million.

Interesting, Leafs looking for the big hometown discount for a guy who scored 38 goals last year. Dallas got a great deal with Duchesne who was willing to take less money because he wanted to stay, plus taxes are less in Texas. I would sign Tavares at that rate, turns 35 in September but a quality guy who takes care of himself. I can definitely see getting 3 pretty good years from him. Would he want to play for the Habs? Yup, as long as the term isn't insane, I'm happy to pay up. He'd be a fantastic band-aid.

Yes, great band aid. Part of me thinks he would prefer to stay in Toronto at a discount BUT I just remembered that he is currently having a battle with CRA so money may be really important to him now as he has some uncertainty on the financial side. Absolutely ... and it would also be way way for Tavares to Frack You the Leafs for not "respecting" him
WildTurkeyXX
Perbix is interesting to me. Any guesses what a contract with him would look like? Is he enough to pair with Hutson on the top, or would we still need someone like Matheson or Guhle on that pair?

He was third pair in tampa and i think there is more there but top pair seems a stretch. Guhle Hutson Matheson Perbix Struble Carrier

AFP Analytics has 2 x $2.645M which, based on how he has played so far, makes sense. But I think there's going to be some projection baked into the contract from teams who think he can be a 4/5 instead of a 5/6. I expect that will easily push the AAV past the $3M range. We're still putting together our Top 50 UFA list with projected contracts for PHR but I can say that there's a pretty big range of projected contracts since there are some varying opinions about the role he'll have with his next team. He's one of the more 'random' guys out there this year.

There is a real challenge ... it is normal for existing contracts to be a big factor in such projections but so many of the top players were locked in to long-term deals before the cap increases were confirmed ... there will be a $30M jump between the 23/24 ceiling and the 27/28 ceiling

If he were to be considerable on the top pair it would add to the expandability of Matheson, as a potential trade chip. That's still not a bad looking lineup. One of the potentially greatest outcome would be him winning a cup in Montreal!! Not only would we get our 25th cup, but imagine the angst and outrage in Toronto of seeing Tavares win in Montreal - they would be furious at Toronto management and ownership!!

Commandant
Freidman is reporting today that the Ducks are likely to deal Zegras. Weve been over issues with him before and Im not a fan, but hey if he goes somewhere and makes one less team in 2C sweepstakes thats good. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
2 minutes ago, alfredoh2009 said: what’s all t hi s sudden love for Tavares? What has he won lately? Tavares is a stud. PPG C with size and experience. Yes, he is old, and no, he doesn't have a ring. But he would make our team way better, be an excellent C for Demidov, and arguably elevate us to "outside contender" status. Assuming that he is available and doesn't demand insane term - two big assumptions - what's not to like?

Lots of red flags around Zegras, but assuming that we're better without him than with him kind of depends on what we'd be sending the other way - no? If it's another Harris-for-Laine type move, I can get on board with that.
