KoZed
In a 30 team league, what teams work balls to the wall every night? Nashville Predators. Barry Trotz is the most underestimated coach ever.
Habsfan
Nashville Predators. Barry Trotz is the most underestimated coach ever. Good Answer. Because he coaches in a non-hockey market, Trotz doesn,t get the credit he deserves!
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Good Answer. Because he coaches in a non-hockey market, Trotz doesn,t get the credit he deserves! Man, I would loooove for the Habs to be able to adopt that model of the 'permanent coach.' Lindy Ruff is the single biggest reason the Sabres are always a strong (albeit not always a plyoff-worthy) team: players come and go, the man and his system remain intact. The same is true of Trotz. In organizations like that, the team is always by definition bigger than the player and there is zero chance of the players ousting the coach, as with Carbo. Lemaire had the same thing going on in Minny It's notable that these coaches worked in fairly minor hockey markets. Unfortunately, this model seems to be unavailable in a circus market like Montreal. KoZed
Unfortunately, as other posters have eluded to and a couple have outright stated, the club is working from a severe disadvantage because of the francophone issue. I'm not interested in a debate on language issues, I only want to mention that because of this policy, the candidates for any position within the hierarchy are significantly limited. Martin arguably speaks French. I think after one year of hearing him, even the most hardcore francophone militant would gladly welcome with open arms a Zimbabwean monkey speaking sign language. Anyway, as far as the permanent coach model goes, it's a policy I was strongly advocating when Carbo got hired because he was a very good candidate for such a commitment. There was a very good opportunity to impose that model then. That's why the firing of Carbo was probably the one single biggest long-term mistake by the organization. Having a long-term bench boss requires that the organization takes a hard stance even when it means sacrificing a season or two. The rewards will still be much greater later. What's more, most fans and medias had enough respect for Carbo that they would have accepted to suffer some growing pains. Carbo was more liked than almost any player. Any way, that's the past now. CoRvInA
I got a question... Teams like St Louis, Calgary and Anaheim that finished out of the playoffs but gathered more points than we did... Do we have an earlier draft pick than they do? Cheers

Do we have an earlier draft pick than they do? Cheers No. We have the 15th overall pick (unless we make the 3rd round, then we have 27th or lower). St. Louis has the 14th pick, Calgary the 13th, and Anaheim the 12th pending the result of the draft lotto tonight. The draft lotto actually involves all the teams that miss the playoffs, not just the bottom 5. It's just that you can only improve your positioning by 5 spots, so if St. Louis won the lottery (they have something like less than 0.1% chance at winning) they'd move up to the 9th pick and Edmonton would still pick 1st. MK1
This is going to be glorious ... having to watch blowhard Burke face the music and hand over the highest draft pick the Leafs have had in 20yrs to ANOTHER team !!!! Epic.

Epic. It is quite hilarious how the two times the Leafs have finished with a bottom 5 record in that span, they have traded their pick the year previous. The other time was when they traded for Tom Kurvers from Jersey. New Jersey picked Scott Niedermeyer with that one.

When I bring up that Hall is a better prospect than Kadri, they aren't happy.
