For those of you who follow Junior and NCAA players closer can you tell us where you think these drafted players, who I think are all forwards,  may fit in with us?

We've heard a lot about our up and coming defenceman this week, Guhle, Barron, Harris and Struble but I'm interested to see who we currently have that could complement Suzuki and Caufield.

Sean Farrell

Riley Kidney

Emil Heineman

Jan Mysak

Ty Smilanic

Joshua Roy.

With the standard caveat that the Habs should be happy if three of these guys make it simply based on overall prospect attrition, here's my rough range of their general upside:

Sean Farrell - top-six winger (but a higher risk of not making it altogether as he doesn't play a style that works in a bottom six)

Riley Kidney - could have 2C upside, like him more as a third liner (seems to be a bit under the radar among Montreal's prospects)

Emil Heineman - middle-six winger that spends a lot of time on both lines

Jan Mysak - third-line C/W (I don't think he's a big point-producer)

Ty Smilanic - bottom-six forward, may fit better on the wing than centre

Joshua Roy - top-six upside, might be able to develop enough of a well-rounded game to not be stuck in a 'top-six or bust' range

Kidney 1g(25)1a in 10goal rout.

Mysak 1g(29)

Xhekaj 1a, BUT more importantly took roughing penalty mid 3rd, was trying goal on the following PP and lost in OT.

Atta boy!

It's a known that we are hoping Harris joins the team. Struble has had ups and downs, but is an intriguing prospect imo.

Harris looks good with the puck and Struble simply runs over several opponents, strong d-man that is for sure.

Brett Stapley lives to fight another day as Denver makes it to the Final Four.  Their next game is April 7th so it'll be a little while longer before he has a chance to sign.  That means Blake Biondi is out although it's highly doubtful he'll be signing yet.

Yaaa, Kapanen 1g (4gms in a row)

Kidney/Sobolev 1a

Vrbetic 1g 34 shot win

Mysak/Xhekaj game just starting (Mysak 1a, both 1 shot, 2-0 in 2nd)

I dont think he is good enough to make the team for World championships.

They will make their picks from the players joining team sweden in the european tournaments.

Which is better for his development in the long run and do they think (plan on/hedging that) he will be a Hab on opening day? Assume no decision needs made till summer.

Would love to see him play in it, but just to see how he does vs peers and as a leader wearing the maple leaf..

Its good development time as a midseason tournament.

In august im not as sure and it cuts into whatever they are working on in offseason and lengthens the season meaning he may burn our in feb or march or something.

Roy      1g1a 1st star of game; his goal was empty netter.

Kidney has also been outstanding this year.  Its just he's been overshadowed a bit by Roy, but Kidney also looks like a really good 2nd round pick so far.

He is a centre also never hurts, even if shifts to wing at pro.  51 assists in 51 games, 7/20 on faceoffs in this one.

Here's a piece on Montreal's NCAA prospects with a note that the Habs are unlikely to offer Stapley a contract: https://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey/2022-04-01/rondelle-libre/survol-des-espoirs-du-ch-dans-la-ncaa.php

An interesting note is that Emil Heineman  could/might   join Laval if the Swedish National Team doesn't choose him for the World Championships.

Am a bit surprised they chose Condotta over Stapley, but I certainly don’t have the level of information they have.

Considering how much time he has missed lately, I have a hard time thinking Sweden would pick him for the Worlds.
