Laval / taxi squad / Montreal ...

I'll bet taxi squad after he quarantines so the Habs coaches can get a first-hand look for a bit and then Laval

Was wondering about Harris and if his season was over. Wouldnt Laval be best place for him to start?

Probably Laval. He won't be game ready after a 2 week quarantine in a hotel room, so perhaps some practice time on the taxi squad could make sense, but he could also just practice in Laval so...

Just give the man his Hobey Baker already.

And which Hab forward gets bumped down or off the PP to make room in May?

It doesn't look like he has much more to prove at the college level.

Agreed ... unknown is whether he is ready for NHL action, or needs some time in Laval

The answer is probably Tatar though.

You think we are likley to see CC in a Habs jersey this spring?

I think the 'frozen four' is over April 10.

Yes, I think he gets a shot with the big club.

Kid is just at another level right now.

Either LW, both having barely buried any pucks this season, can gtfo of the way for Caufield on the PP IMO:

Drouin:  2G

Tatar: 5G

Take your pick.  Replacing either of those two with Caufield, and having him blast one-timers from the left circle is what I want to see.

... but will CC be able to learn teh new system and play well without the puck?

... and will he be targeted like Suziki is, overrun by the opposition's bigger players?

I would let prefer he spends time in the AHL and see if he can dominate there. Once he is ready, he can be called up with the black aces

I tend to agree with you ... the jump from the NCAA to NHL is a big one ... NCAA may have older players than the CHL but the college game is less physical ... the AHL would be a good test to see how Caufiled deals with players as large or larger than the NCAA, with overall more skilled and much more physical ... but I fear/expect that the need for scoring will override common sense.

Perhaps he will could be given a Roadrunner-ish role  ... if I recall properly, when Yvan was a rookie he was largely used as a powerplay specialist ... if Caufield improves the powerplay but has issues 5-on-5 then CC could get 4th line reps, perhaps even on a selective basis with whoever is hot that game can get some extra shifts.

Specifically on PP, Tatar is 2.31 goals/60 (sadly our second-best forward on PP) while 4.63 assists/60 (second on the team behind Petry). Drouin's numbers are 0 and 2.79.

Drouin's passing and ability to move the puck quickly is a huge part of the PP.  Its not solely about goals.

He has 17 assists this season.

Yes. But somehow that's not working for him on the PP, as Tatar has almost twice as many PP assists per 60. I don't think Drouin looks bad on PP, but the results aren't there.

The last game, anderson's goal was a direct result of what drouin did on the boards in setting it up.  It was the "third assist", but it helped make the play.

Ducharme's PP is clearly different from Mullers in that there is a lot of rapid movement of the puck, and that is something Drouin excels at.  It may not be caught in points, but he's been a key piece in this PP getting a lot better very quickly.

Drouin is a vastly improved player in all aspects of the game, particularly defensively. Now if he would only shoot more.

But we know he won't, or if he does he likely won't score...as do the penalty killers on the opposing team.  That's why I am fine with giving up his playmaking in favor of a pure shooter: we need more pucks buried, and there's little doubt in my mind that Caufield is better at doing that than Jonathan Drouin.
