Too Good for the OHL

You really think so?

I was 100% convinced a full year in CHL would be best for him, but him on the wing instead of Moan being in top 6/or 9, would surely be more productive and Plekanec/Eller would likely be quite happy to have him there as well.

Maybe Habs very lucky he didnt play last year, Columbus/Oil may have chosen differently?

Great to see Kristo get 6 points in last 2 games and MacMillan already at his freshman goal total.

Even the Blades have turned things around and Thrower is back being physical, lugging the puck alot and Dietz continuing to produce offensively (other end of ice still a ??)

I dont like to get my hopes up too much for prospects but this kid could be a legend.

Agreed. Not only does he have a wicked wrist shot, but he's got good hands and seems to be a good skater as well.

We shall see how Galchenyuk-Yakupov-Collberg-Forsberg-Grigorenko, etc all fare vs top competition again next week.

And really looking forward to seeing all the top 5 - 2013 prospects compete; Alek Barkov-Elias Lindholm-Seth Jones-MacKinnon and Drouin.

Of course you can. Imagine if the 1st an 2nd choices become averagelayers and Galchenyuk becomes an all-star.

That still doesn't make him a steal. Denis Savard was not a steal at third overall because Wickenheiser and Babych were lesser players. To be a steal, everyone in the league has to have passed you up. You took a guy who should have been drafted higher but nobody knew but you. Patrick Roy? A steal at 51st Overall. Datsyuk? Unquestionably a steal. Being third overall just means two teams passed you up. That's no steal. Especially when after Murray and Yakupov were off the board, Galchenyuk was the consensus best pick in the draft.

This debate is purely rhetorical and I won't argue with you. What I meant -- and I guess that you already have a good idea about that -- is that Galchenyuk clearly has the potential to become the best player available at the time of the draft. It remains to be seen, of course, but so far let's just say that he is coming along very fine indeed.

I know I can be anal sometimes but I prefer your wording here and I agree. It was said when he was drafted that if Yakupov and Galchenyuk were healthy all season, it would have been much more of a toss up on who would be the first overall pick. For what people knew of both players, Galchenyuk was the second best forward in the draft and the gap between him and Yakupov was debatable.

I think it will be debatable for years (like Seguin/Hall) and it will end up depending on which player had the best support on their team, but Galchenyuk definitely has great potential. I just hope some people realize he may end up staying at the wing. And that's okay.

One thing I can already say about Galchenyuk, just by looking at the videos: if he played with the Habs, he would have the best wrist shot among all the players. I can't believe the power and the accuracy behind this shot.

Good news- Dietz adds another assist and now 18th in WHL d-scoring and at least he no longer is last in +/-

Bad news- he was a -1 and now is -20, which is about 637th with only 2 or 3 players beneath him.

Thrower not scoring, but is on 2 game fight streak and i see his 16 year old brother is following in his footsteps and plays a very similar game for the HItmen, making big hits and taking on 20 year olds who outweigh him by 30lbs.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bozon had a pair of goals in a 7-3 loss - it's also worth noting he was a +2 despite his team coughing up 7. He has 10 points in his last 8 games after a bit of a slow stretch (8 points in 13 games). Brady Vail had an assist (and a -4 rating) in a 9-4 loss to London. He is -7 over his last 3 contests.

For anyone who wants to watch some OHL games, all games today and tomorrow are being streamed for free online - click here for more info.

Both Bozon and Colin Smith were +2, Smith was another i was a bit surprised to not get an invite to camp, with a 35 goal season last year as well, he seems a better prospect than Lipon?

But good that Bozon still has 1 super linemate to play with for next week or so.

Since Lipon is being used in a defensive role, maybe Canada was looking for someone that can play both ways that can move up if injuries/suspensions arise. I'm not familiar with Smith so I'm not sure if he has that in him as well but that would be my guess.

I just noticed that the WHL is also streaming games tonight free as well for anyone who's interested.

Bozon had a 4 point night yesterday (3 goals and an assist) moving him back into the top-5 in WHL scoring. He should be able to pass teammate JC Lipon over the next couple of games.

Hudon is also getting close to skating (hoping for sometime around the middle of the week) after back issues forced him out of the WJC's.

Looks like Dietz should pass his goal total from last year, but i saw a really scary video clip about Blades Mem. Cup story on Sportsnet; they showed Patrice Brisbois actually giving defensive pointers to Dietz and Thrower at a blades practice!

Now i can see why Dietz is a -21.

Bozon has 6 goals/8 points in last 3 games, which is just super to see him heating up again.

Looking back in the thread, Dietz was -19 back on November 28th. -2 over a month, that's not great but for a scuffling team like this, that's not bad. Still, it'd be nice to see that even get to single digits by the end of the year.

Speaking of minuses, Vail is -2 so far this afternoon. If that holds up, he'll be -10 in his last 5 games. I think it's safe to say he's in a slump.

Bozon looks to be filling in for AG and added 3 more points yesterday (7goals/11points in last 4 games, albeit 2 games were vs sadsack Giants).

He is now 5th in WHL scoring and only 15 points shy of last year's total.

Pretty good night for our prospects.

Kristo with a goal and assist.
Macmillan with an assist.
Dietz with a goal and assist (and a +3)
Vail with two helpers.
Cichy with a helper.
and the aforementioned Hudon with 2 goals and an assist in his first game back after the injury.

Bozon with 1 assist (still playing).
