As @dlbair said above the choice is Laval or Team Austria at the Worlds ... he (?) further speculated in another thread that it may depend on what role (i.e., icetime) the Habs/Rocket offer him in Laval.

Be interesting to see him in Laval next week.

I assume he is done in europe and likely be in Laval in the fall also?

I think he has another year left in Zurich but an NHL contract would supersede it.

Grading Rasmus Bergqvist’s 2024-25 season

Grade: A
Anyone who said they foresaw Bergqvist making team Sweden for the WJC at the time of the 2024 draft is lying. Just making that team makes the season a success. Bergqvist’s usage in the SHL with close to 11 minutes of average ice time in 25 games also makes the season a success. Combine the two and it has been a very positive year for Bergqvist. The U20 silver medal was something that many sort of expected, but it adds to the season as a whole.

Grading Filip Eriksson’s 2024-25 season

Grade: C-
To be honest this would have been a score of D until his loan to Djurgården. It was a lost year for Eriksson as he struggled with confidence and with limited ice time. However, showcasing a new, more complete role raised the grade a level.

Rohrer & Marco Casper seem to be the 1st PK duo vs Sweden.

... and at a somewhat lower level, Trois-Rivieres starts their conference final series against Florida tonight, having dispatched Reading 4-0 in the first round and then Norfolk 4-2 in the division final.

Anthony Beauregard tied for the playoff scoring lead, with seven goals in 10 games. Chris Jandric tied for D-men points lead with nine, Luke Cavallin third (of starters) with .939.

With only 12 shots, the Lions take the lead in the Eastern Final

LAST

The Trois-Rivières Lions found a new way to win in Game 1 of the ECHL Eastern Conference Final, as goaltender Luke Cavallin defeated the Florida Everblades 1-0.

Only Kyle Havlena scored on the night. In the second period, the defenseman surprised goaltender Cam Johnson with a screened shot from the corner of the opposing zone.

Cavallin did the rest of the work for general manager and head coach Ron Choules' men. He stopped all 32 shots he faced, half of them in the second period. His prowess helped the Lions kill off five penalties. The visitors, on the other hand, have only challenged Johnson a dozen times.

In addition, Games 3 and 4 of the series will take place at the Colisée Vidéotron on Wednesday and Friday.

Cavallin now has the best save percentage at .945 of all the ECHL playoff starters.  👍

He also led all goalies that started at least half the games in the regular season at .929. He's been an excellent signing by John Sedgwick.

Earning an AHL job next year?

Perhaps not an NHL contract but at least an AHL salary and job

Cavallin faced another 32 shots this afternoon but made 31 saves in a 2-1 win, so the Lions take a 2-0 series lead with them when they return to T-R.  Things looked grim at the end of the first when Nijhoff took an elbowing major plus a game misconduct but the Lions killed it off--and Ducharme scored the winning SHG with about a minute left in the penalty.

Prospect Ben Merrill has committed to play at Boston University next season.  He had a pretty quiet year in the BCHL and is still a long way away from being pro-ready.

Beyond Fowler and Dobes they have other prospect in the pipeline, although I expect they may need a veteran to be the #2 in Laval next season

Either a veteran or Luke Cavallin, who has been outstanding in the ECHL (best save percentage of alll ECHL starters in both regular season and playoffs).

Well I’m very late to the party then!

At least that X/Twitter post was very late!

TR played a solid game yesterday, outshooting Florida 30-20 (for the first time in the series) to take a 3-2 lead in the ECHL semifinal series. They can book a trip to the finals--against Toledo--with a win in Florida on Tuesday night.

Hopefully he gets a chance to play a bigger role with them than he did with Vaxjo.  It was a bit of a disappointing year from a development standpoint for him although finishing big in the second-division playoffs was good to see.
