tomh009 Posted December 13, 2025 Posted December 13, 2025 Tied for the WHL goals lead and third in points ... and he's a defenceman. He could turn out to be another excellent third-round pick yet. Quote

Pickford 2g (21, 22) 2a 6 shots, assist on tying goal with 21 seconds left in 3rd and then he scored the OT GWG He is on a 'pretty' good roll and 4th game in a row as 1st star of game Moose Jaw Warriors at Medicine Hat Tigers - Friday, December 12, 2025 He is on a roll, 4 games in a row as 1st star is impressive. As a Habs fan (fan is short for fanatic) I will allow myself to get a little excited. It's almost like there is a stigma attached to him because he wasn't drafted when he was 1st eligible, sort of like how could he be that good if he was passed over for 7 rounds? I get that but his skill is impressive, excellent skater and a phenomenal shot, excellent passer. And his head is screwed on right, they made him captain for a reason. I know it's still junior but he is absolutely dominating right now. Fun to watch. 1 Quote

The overager arguement is a valid one. It happens a lot. My cousin's son lit it up in the dub when he was 20. Finally gets drafted after being passed over twice. Managed to get enough nhl games to be a good sample size. And it did not work out in the nhl. He a fringe nhl player. Not saying every example is like this, and pickford will be like this, but i think it happens a lot. Overager dominating junior. Quote

He is 19, born in 2026. He played his 1st game in the DUB when he was 15 and the following year he was on a stacked Seattle Thunderbird team that went to the Memorial Cup so he didn't get a ton of ice time. Hopefully/looking like a late bloomer. Quote
DON Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Pickford 2g (23,24) 4 shots in a 10-2 blowout, 3 teammates had 4 pts games so no star. Paupanekis 2g (8,9) 3a 6 shots 1st star of game. Assume this will be a good match-up today. London Knights at Brantford Bulldogs 2:00 pm Owen Protz - Quote

tomh009 Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Has anyone watched a substantial amount of Pickford video? How is he scoring his goal, is it a big cannon from the top of the circle, or is he skating in and scoring with wristers closer to the net? Quote

Below is a good compilation, makes a phenomenal move at the 3:09 mark. Has a canon of a slapshot, great wrist shot and is an effortless skater. Will he defend at the NHL level is always the question but he is willing and does play with an edge. 1 Quote

DON Posted December 20, 2025 Posted December 20, 2025 Yup is very tantalizing offense, but i keep going back to, his competition are not bigger-stronger-faster pro players. Mailloux has a great shot also, but can defend at pro-level, yet. Big test will be in April/May when he likely graduates to AHL (to at least be on roster to practice with them seems normal step), barring making memorial cup run. He has more time to shoot and has dangled through younger WHL kids, 99.99% of dont have 252 WHL games under belt, so grain of salt needed. I think Misa is the last forward they're probably getting as Pittsburgh isn't sending Kindel and Catton is still injured. Quote
