Petry didn't skate today.  Evans has progressed to off-ice workouts, nothing on-ice yet.

I can't see Evans getting through the concussion protocol before the end of the semifinal series. If it goes to six or seven, maybe an outside chance.

Modified glove for Petry

This video shows a clip of him practicing ... no grip from the last two fingers

I love me some Kulak but I wonder if Merrill would be better suited for the Vegas giants

Dont know, but for coaching staff to have another option, with 400gms under his belt, cant hurt.

Is Weber OK? He seemed like hurt his hand or jammed his wrist?

Seems to be the same wrist he had the brace on. Tendons maybe?

I doubt it will impact whether he plays, just how well ... similarly, I full expect Jeff Petry ... just don't know whether the will be able to make a significant difference.

Petry is pretty weak in his own end at best of times, so that is a worry for me. But mostly seems is lazy turnovers or braincramps that lead to goals against or extended time in own end.

Or being tentative along the boards or what happens when his union members on the other team accidently on-purpose "gently" bump his hand with stick (thinking of a Kovalev stopping playing, bumping into Souray costly play type-deal).

Petry being pretty weak in his own end is kind of a myth though.

Its the same thing that plagued Subban, when he makes a mistake its a very noticeable one, but we don't notice how many times the transition game is started cause he makes a good play, and overall his good plays far, far outweigh his bad ones.  Others also make mistakes, they are just not the noticeable ones.

Petry is our best defender at both ends of the ice.

That said, he's gonna be less than 100% and who knows what kind of power he can get on passes/shots with his injured hand.

call me a mashed potato if you want, but it seems to me that Gustafson is as much a mess on his D-zone as Petry was when he came over from EDM

I would rather sign Gustafson to play with Weber and use the depth to get a top4 LD

I'd say Petry was better, and was also two years younger than Gustafsson.

Gustafsson is a PP specialist at best, and a scratch at worse.

No way do I want Gustafsson playing the amount of minutes Weber plays at Even strength.

Fair enough. And yet I think he has improved somewhat already after arriving, and I think he can be better yet than he is today. Do you think a credible third-pair D (with PP skills) is beyond his ceiling?

Third pair with 10-12 minutes or so of even strength, heavily sheltered with offensive zone starts, and then PP time is likely his ceiling.

That said, it would be extremely rare that he gets much better than he is now.  He's 29, not 25.... It's more likely that he's only going to get worse defensively in about three years from now (age 32 or so) as he loses some speed.

Hopefully three years from now some of our (post-Romanov) prospects are ready for NHL duty!

But, if you mean that you would not commit to Gustafsson for five years, I do agree with that.

I don't see him being in big demand.  You could probably re-sign him on a one year deal for cheap.

I mean it was clear that he was available going into the trade deadline and all Philly could get was a 7th round pick and that was with 1/2 his salary retained by the Flyers.

He's not going to be in high demand as there are a lot better LHD in free agency, especially when salary cap concerns mean some RFAs don't get qualified.

How so, havent you watched him play? What myth is there? We have seen him put on Souray-like defending one on one (seems bit better in last year or two) and we all see his stupid costly turnovers...which he seems to really do poorly when wide open in own end with puck, for some reason.

That is a pretty low bar isnt it?

i would take Edmundson or Weber defending in own end over him anyday.

without Petry they had all of 0 shots in game 1, so he should help there, if he can shoot and pass, otherwise let him sit.

Out of the UFAs , he is one of the few with high PPG at a reasonable cap hit... just saying
