DON
Would Gilbert be OK with a primarily #7 d-man role and pay cut?
BCHabnut
Would Gilbert be OK with a primarily #7 d-man role and pay cut? I would do it. I have heard a few theories that more good vets are gonna be on pto to compete with the young guys pay. We may see less 2 and 3 million dollar contracts for mediocre talent. Either you are good and worth 5 mill or you are worth one mill. Gilbert for two years at 1.1 per year? I would do that
Trizzak
Would Gilbert be OK with a primarily #7 d-man role and pay cut? I doubt he wants to stay in Montreal, even if we offered him the most money.
DON
as they say, meh! He is replaceable but I thought he did an OK job, for all the criticism he took.

What's up with Carey? He was skating with pads, and now?

The Chicoutimi Cucumber
He was a perfectly fine #5. There is always a whipping boy in Montreal. Always. For some reason, it became Gilbert, with Emelin a close second. Next year it will be Emelin and probably someone else. None of this has anything to do with rational analysis. It just seems to be chronic in this fan culture and goes back a long way; apparently they used to boo J.C. Tremblay. What's a more recent development, it seems to me, is the protective, almost maternal attitude fans have taken toward certain chosen players who are then marked off and sheltered against any critique. Thus, Lars Eller has always had a crowd of people babying him and making excuses for his mediocrity: poor l'il Lars, it's never his fault. This year, we've seen the same thing with Mike Condon: to a certain segment of the fan base, one is simply not allowed to point out that Condon's being no more than a backup is the single biggest cause of our collapse this season, even though that is, prima facie, pretty obvious. No sir, it's not his fault. I don't recall this pattern from earlier years, except for French Canadian players with offensive upside. Thus, Pierre Larouche, Stephane Lebeau, an Mike Ribeiro were given a pass by large chunks of the fanbase, their failings blamed on others (usually the coach). But this excuse-making tendency now seems to have detached itself from its nativist origins and now accrues to any player, on a more or less random basis, that fans decide to apply it to. DON
Sounds like Subban likely could play, but being held out (for now) with so few games left to play.
dlbalr
Subban won't play tomorrow against the Rangers. Lessio is out as well. Brown skated today as did Andrighetto, both should be available tomorrow.

DON
Price likely only going for golf outing at fancy resort and likely finally called it a year for him, so rehab can wait a few days.

I don't think he'd be making the trip if he wasn't going to skate with the team. He makes enough money that he doesn't need to piggyback on a team charter to get a couple of golf games in. I think Price is back at some point next week to be honest and gets one, maybe two games in. Carr and Gallagher are also on the trip and Carr's hoping to get into the lineup which would be well ahead of schedule.

dlbalr
Not before Saturday? =( I don't think he has had a full practice with the team yet (he has been taking shots before or after). It'll just be a morning skate tomorrow which means their only full practice before Saturday would be Friday. I would hope they don't put him in after just one full practice under his belt. DON
What does dlbalr know...kidding. My guess is that he wont be playing again this year, sorry LM but maybe you get to see the new goalie addition? The extra players are just there for final team road-trip/outing of season.

If I had to guess, Lindgren will get the Carolina game. Their other matchups (FLA x 2, TB x 2) have big playoff implications for the division race. I could see the Habs respecting the integrity of that race and use either Condon or Price for those four games.

Do you really think their decision to sign a college goalie was based on whether or not Price misses another 10 days? They wanted a goalie because they needed another youngster in the system beyond this season. They easily could have kept Scrivens around to cover the last week and a bit of this season; they had no issues keeping him around for three months. They had to burn a year on Lindgren because enough other teams out there were willing to (if they wanted him, they had to agree to this), not because they're worried Price won't be back. Or they wanted to give Lindgren some games this year to see where he is at, and they know Price is not coming back. Just saying. I know I would not risk Price at this stage. I know I would not risk Price at this stage. Price took part in practice today (and is expected to be at practice tomorrow as well). They would have known he was going to skate today when they signed Lindgren yesterday. I just can't see there being a correlation between signing Lindgren and Price being shut down, especially since all signs point to Price playing next week if all goes well.
