I have no faith that the NHL wouldn't try to make an example of a team like Montreal for using the LTIR loophole.

Which doesn't mean anything unless they already plan to add another $8-$9 million to spend what will be left of Price's LTIR pool. I don't see them doing that let alone adding even more money beyond that.
Commandant
Given price's LTIR space is unlikely to be fully used, I don't see why they'd even need to do this. If Laine is ready with 10 games left or so, they can activate him for the stretch run. This is assuming he's only 4-6 months. I still will assume its worse until we get confirmation. Not getting my hopes up.

Exactly, with Price on LTIR as well they will have 18-20million to spend and Hughes can go on a shopping spree for some quality (maybe a little overpaid) forwards that have 1 year left on their contract (ie John Tavares, LOL). The Habs sneak into the 8th playoff spot, Laine comes back healthy just in time for the playoffs and they go on a tear. I can see the headlines in the paper now "Demoted Leafs captain knocks former team out of the playoffs". Sweet. I know it sucks that Laine got hurt but when you are given a lemon you make lemonade. Let's go boys!!! Perhaps I am being a little optimistic but what the heck.
JoeLassister
I would confirm a Season 2 of Crave's "The Rebuild" and bring Jaromir Jagr over.

Dalhabs
This was what worried me the most. Our 5th overall Dman missing crusial whole season. Laine is annoying but this is alot worse.
Butterface
Talk about a huge kick in the nuts just before a hockey season I was finally excited about going into for many years. The fact it happened against a Leafs AHL team in the preseason makes it a whole lot worse. That takes a few goals off our stats sheet and a decent call up on D who could be gaining a lot of experience in the minors. Silver linings ? At least we have a better shot at finishing below Calgary and pushing them down toward the 11th pick. Kapanen might stick around. Other bubble players might see more NHL action … leads to experience. I would think all Barron and Savard trades will wait.
