Expectation minus reality equals level of disappointment. Overhyping a prospect leads to being disappointed if Beck becomes a good third liner and not a multiple selke winning, HOF candidate, and then running him out of town five years from now cause we miss how good he is cause we wanted more. Ok. I’ll try to keep my hopes to myself. oh wait, this is a place where I’m free to give my thoughts, hopes and opinions. Preferably without ridicule. Stop being condescending. Ive never done the first. You are doing the second to me and its not appreciated. Habs Fan in Edmonton
2 hours ago, Butterface said: Thanks, but when someone comments like that when I say “I hoping” it is a bit much. In fairness you did say you "hoped" Beck would turn into Carbonneau which is fair. I have high hopes for Beck as well. As Habs fans (again fan is short for fanatic) we all have high hopes for our young prospects, sometimes realistic hopes, sometimes overly optimistic. Time will tell for Beck. I think/hope he can be a very valuable 3rd line centre, capable of scoring 15 goals/year while playing a strong 200 foot game and winning a lot of valuable faceoffs when the game is on the line. That is my hope for Beck. I hope you continue to participate in these discussions, newcomers should always feel welcome. You can't be offended or take it personally when someone disagrees with your opinions although there have been posters here who have crossed the line when disagreeing with someone else and making it personal. That's when the moderators have usually stepped in and taken action. People have different opinions, that's just the way the world works and what keeps it interesting. Cheers.

The only way Hughes adds a Dman IMO is if we get an early long term injury. Considering that Barron is questionable I get the reasoning, I just don’t think Hughes would. Struble might take Barrons spot
tomh009
And we have Mailloux and Reinbacher in Laval. Yes, they should probably spend more time in the AHL, but if needs must ...

I think Struble and Xhekaj would be a serviceable 3rd pair for the next couple of season. Xhekaj is at least NHL caliber and Struble has shown in bursts he can be too. Someone like Struble would be better than a defensive liability like Barron for Xhekaj. As for experience, that's a double edged sword. You can't get experience without playing and the current situation in Montreal is tailored to getting young players getting just that. These are the lumps we have to go through, as a team and fans, for the rebuild and hopefully a better future.

Butterface
I’ve posted under Butterface years ago advocating the firing of Bergevin well before it was done. That was when I lived in Montreal. It was not on this site. Don’t remember that sites name … I guess it could have been this site. It was where posters got excited about being first to post when an article came out… maybe related to a game thread ? Maybe hockey inside out ? I don’t remember. I left Montreal in 2017… probably posted there since 2011 or 2013 ? Too long ago. Don’t care. The last several years I have been outside the country living away from snow without consistent access to internet or tv or games. Now I’m back and able to watch games. Excited for it even though I hate winter. i am not another poster. I really could not care enough to be another name. I will hit the ignore button on Commandant as soon as I find it. In the meantime I hope everyone is free to post their excited opinions without zealots with odd authoritative police or army command names being overbearing and hyperbolizing comments to try be authoritative. I don’t want my leg getting dry humped by a dude trying to show dominance. i don’t mind creative and positive critiquing… but to get put on blast for saying and I quote using cut and paste…., “Beck I’m hoping will turn into a Guy Carbonneau…” Should I have said Doug Jarvis ffs ? Either way life goes on… I haven’t posted on site like this since probably the 2016-17 season and I’m happy to go away again. Butterface
From the 3 separate practice teams, it looks as though no one has really lost their job from last year… (yeah yeah some expiring ufas and a couple of trades in summer excepted) …. I don’t know now if we should expect a shake up in the 3rd and 4th lines going forward or not. Maybe Hughes will leave it be until the trade deadline. Maybe an offer will be too hard to turn down mid-season. The excitement of Kapanen possibly cracking the line up and causing a trade just went down a notch. I don’t mind the pragmatic way in which the team is being managed. I’m actually a huge fan of the way management has been assembling the team (minor issue on a 2023 first round choice). I’m hoping they start to move out some of the contracts they are able to and replace with prospects that seem to be ready (Kapanen). I assume they will begin to boil down these multitude of draft picks for higher draft picks or for a promising prospect from another club fairly soon. I assume they will begin choosing a core group to build the team around (as we’ve begun to see), but the way the Cap is and the salaries are going is the core group 4 players 5 ? 6 ? players ? Toronto and Edmonton have struggled getting balance. Hughes seems like he is doing his best to stay balanced. In a few years the struggle will be real. Swayman and Shesterkin are driving goalie prices up…. You need quality RFAs and entry level players making low dollars along with the core group of guys. My trade proposal is how do we get Pacioretty out of Toronto ? I’m kidding. F that guy. Likes his Toronto jersey. Doughty is out for a bit. They are looking for centre depth. Let’s work the phone. Give them some help in both places if they take sh!t contract off our books. Go get them Kent !
