Do it now. Along with White,it's a great 2/3 of a 4th line for next year, keeping Blunden and Darche in Hamilton in case of injuries. If we sign him,I pledge not to knock PG/BG for a week

No need to sign.....just claim him. Always been a fan of his even though he never lived up to expectations. Like White he could play RW or Center. I think he may have been tried on the LW as well. Like he fact that he is a local kid. Would also love to get his brother out of St.Louis as well.

It's moves like those that coud really hasten a rebuild. Just need management to think the same way.And no more soft undersized dmen(Diaz,Weber,Campoli,Kaberle). Even Gorges is undersized, and would be a much better player as a #4/5.

The idea of Georges as a 4th or 5TH man is ridiculous. How is he undersized? He is 6'1 and over 200 lbs! Georges is an EXCELLENT defencemen. He has proven this over the past few years and people really need to recognize this. He plays hard, blocks shots, makes great defensive plays with his stick tying up players infront of the net, gets people away from the net, good skating, not completely one dimensional, seriously. He is great. He is NO question top 4. If he was 5th on a team that would be ridiculously stacked. He is top pairing or a really really good second pairing guy.

Speaking of bottom 6 Anthony Stewart is on waivers today. He's a guy I've always wanted on this team. A big tough local kid who can be used either as a defensive forward on the 3rd line or as a 4th liner. He has 13 points, is a plus player and making just $900k per season with 1 year left.

This is the type of 4th liner I want to start building our team with.

Just to play devil's advocate, the fact he was waived by the one team worse than Montreal in the East isn't ringing any alarm bells? On the surface, I agree he'd be a good 4th line fit based on his on-ice potential/qualities but the fact he wasn't qualified by Winnipeg and now waived by Carolina months later suggests there may be more than meets the eye here. Maybe they just want to try a youngster there instead, I don't know, but I think it's something that needs to be considered. (Also keep in mind that would be contract #50 out of 50 though moving one of the UFA's for a pick would offset that.)

True, but he has 6g 7 a and a +4 on the'Canes. He had 39 pts with Atl. last yr,cap hit of 900k,and a young hometown boy.If that's not worth taking a gamble on,especially the cap hit, then what is? Darche or Stewart? Nokie or Stewart.? Weber or Stewart for 4th line?

Yeah though I'm cautious because it hints at personality issues... but he only would have one more year... so i think it could be worth the gamble.

Course I'd prefer to play White when he comes back and they are attempting to show Weber more before the deadline so I dont think we will pick him up.

#4 dman is 2nd pairing. He has more heart than any Hab. I really like him. Good, solid dman. But great? No.Not now,not ever. He will never make an allstar team. And 200 lbs is undersized for a defensive dman who goes into the "dirty" areas like he does.

Serious question: do you think PG even knows(or cares) that he's on waivers,or knows anything about him?

Gauthier has made some bad moves but he's also made some good ones. In all honesty I don;t know what to expect anymore.

The guy has been a GM for years and still is the team's pro scout. I'm pretty sure he knows what a waiver wire notification is (he did make a waiver claim earlier this year let's not forget). I know you're not his biggest fan (that may be putting it lightly) but he'll be aware he's on waivers and will be aware of who the player is...or at the very least will have access to scouting reports from over the years.

Interestingly enough, he has another resource in Cunneyworth who has coached Stewart before back in Rochester. He may know something we don't about Stewart that could either make the Habs want to take him...or stay away at all costs. So when he's not claimed tomorrow by Montreal (my prediction), don't just jump on Montreal's management, the coach will have a say in this for sure. Heck, even Jacques Martin has coached him, he's someone that Gauthier would lean on for inside info as well.

When Anothny Stewart was in Kingston (OHL ) he was a very lazy player, his brother Chris quite the opposite.

That said a lot can change in 7 years.

he certianly didn't live to expectations.

You beat me to it. So much potential back then, but no effort.

Do you get to many Fronts games?

Going to see the Subbans on friday?

Or Tinordi at the end of the month?

We're hoping to see Tinordi this month if my work schedule works out. I usually only make it out for those Habs prospect games these days, but I attended a lot of Fronts games in the past.

Bob Mackenzie but I guess he is just another Habs homer,

#RF

I think MacKenzie is a great analyst...glad to hear he is also high on Moen's ability. Not sure he's among the best bottom 6 on the market but only because I don't honestly know how many are openly on "the market"...I'll trust in MacKenzie's contacts and analysis. Having said that, the trade deadline market is still developing...

The rumoured return on Ruutu is a late 1st round pick or blue chip prospect...IF that's true do people still think Moen is worth a 2nd round pick?

Moen is a good PK specialist and very good 4th line player...and average 3rd liner. The problem is the inflated expectations of Moen's value. I'll be the first to slag PG for his performance as a GM but I wouldn't slag him for getting a 4th round pick on Moen since that's probably what his value is...a 3rd rounder would be an above average return IMHO. If PG can snake a 2nd round pick and Ruutu gets dealt for a 1st round pick I'd say PG finally made a great deal and then ask why we didn't get in on a deal for Ruutu...lol.

In thinking of trading Moan, it just would be very hard to replace a guy who, works hard every game, kills penalties very well, has a bit of scoring touch, is fairly tough and never ever takes a bad penalty? I was trying to think of even one dumb stick penalty of his and draw a blank?

But Gauthier must be getting some good offers i bet, but resigning him wouldnt be a bad idea.

There will be other guys available in the summer too. Some will re-sign but with this length of list not all.

Moen

Prust

Asham

Kostopolous

Gaustad

Carcillo

Tootoo

Thornton

Campbell

Jackman

Taylor Pyatt,

just a sampling.

Thats why I changed my view here, I was originally for re-signing him, but now I think you have to take the asset and go after him or a replacement July 1st.

You can always sign him in the summer. Moen is a rental player, much like Kaberle last year.

sounds good, but haas it ever happened that a team, traded a UFA and then resigned the same player in summer?

That would be such a great plan to talk over with Moen haha
