Look at Palushaj (first liner to 4th), Engqvist (first liner; yes, seriously, to 4th), and St-Denis (25 minutes per game to 16-18). Dropping from 18 to 14 isn't that much by comparison. Even if he ends up only effective in 3rd line and PP ice time he will add a serious punch that is missing not to mention the mentoring aspect. That could change, depending on what moves Bergevin makes, so I could be wrong, I suppose. Also, I really think Jagr will be looking for a 2 year deal this time, and I don't know if we'd be willing to offer that. He would look good with Pleks and Gionta, though. I got attacked on Twitter when I disagreed with this. I would be willing to bury the contract but a buyout would not be a detriment. Jagr would create SO much room for Pleky and Gionta...it would be unreal. I could see Plek getting 70pts again with someone like him. Given what's on the UFA list and what term they're all looking for, what other options do we have for the short term solution as our youth grows into their future roles? There's always room for a spoiler, but i don't think Leblanc or anyone else would fill the spot. OK maybe Gallager, but that 2nd line averages less than 5"10 at that point. I feel like Cup contending teams would be more attractive to Jagr. One word is that he wants to play in Canada, to experience that. If this is your goal, then no city better captures the experience than Montreal. Besides, only one of the seven teams is even remotely a Cup contender, so it's slim pickings in that sense (although I can absolutely see Vancouver making a play for Jagr if Gillis is confident of moving the Luongo contract). There is the chance of an amnesty buyout period when the new CBA is done, as there was last time, which would give us the chance to buy out Gomez (and, in my dreams at least, Kaberle) without a cap hit, which Gomez would obviously prefer. I'd acually rather send him to the minors, because there is always the chance that he would quit or try to sign with a team in Europe, which would be the best case for the Habs. Either way, his time here is over. That move gives us cap room for a top 6 winger (such as Jagr) and a couple of bottom 6 players (I'm still hoping we resign Moen). I'd love to see what a season of Pleks and Jagr on the same line would bring. The number of line combos Pleks had to endure last year was staggering. Put them together, and say you've got until Christmas, let it rip! Oh, and let's not forget, we've got the Casino, and we know about Jagr and gambling.
