Having said that, I am wondering if the board members have any inkling as to which direction in terms of position should we be looking at early on.. Please don't give me that BPA mouthwash. BPA is never a bad way to go but I'd be looking for a forward with the first couple of picks if I had my way. There is quality defence depth in the pipeline but the forward situation is a little murkier. Specifically, a centre is always most ideal (they can always be converted to the wing as we've seen many times). I'd also like to see a goalie taken by the end of the 3rd round (with 6 picks, there should be an opportunity to take a decent one without reaching). We've been saying for years "Now would be a good time to draft a goalie." So this draft would be a good time to draft a goalie With 4 core defensemen under the age of 30 and numerous defense prospects at various levels, I'd be shocked and a little disappointed if we drafted another defenseman. Only 1 d-man was drafted last year (although Vail is pretty much a full time defenceman in Windsor right now). With 9 picks, I'd be stunned (and disappointed) if at least 2 blueliners aren't picked. Even though there is a good level of depth in the system, that depth will be considerably different by the time any draftees from 2013 are ready to play in the AHL. They will need to re-stock soon and with extra picks, it's not a bad year to do so. I'm not advocating two early picks necessarily but more bodies will be needed sooner than later. I am not convinced that we have it addressed as of yet, and an extra would be a bonus. I believe with Price in tow, this is the hardest piece to find for the Canadiens. The second piece would also be a big forward ( a Mike Bossy in a Lucic size)--- also hard to find. I would say that somewhere after the first round that a goal keeper might be in order. I also agree with Dlbair that we need to scatter in defenseman . I would not be opposed to trading a pick and getting assets in another year. It looks like we are going to be picking late. DON Posted March 30, 2013 Share Posted March 30, 2013 A Curtis Lazar or Adam Erne should be a later 1st rounder pick and both are good size, but Timmins likely could care less about size and will simply take BPA, which may be a 5'9" 160lber from Portland? Lazar is a RH centre with 35 goals and one of my favourites for 2nd half of 1st round, along with Petan or maybe Klimchuk. i cant see them not drafting a goalie again, Comrie or Jarry maybe a good choice. I've also attended games as a journalist. No interest in Rychel. I'd be all over Ho-Sang when he's draft eligible but he'll be a top 10 pick I bet. ISS Rankings have Frederick Gauthier at 20th and Anthony Mantha at 27th. Both are QMJHL players with a ton of size. Mantha is a 6'3"/6'4", 200lb winger from Longueuil putting up 50 goals this season. His grandfather was Andre Pronovost. He grew up a Habs fan but also was a fan of the Penguins. Gauthier is a complete player at 6'5" but isn't as physical as he should be. Could be a Jordan Staal/Paul Gastaud. I like Mantha's upside most but Gauthier would add immediate size and defensive smarts. Probably the more likely Timmins pick. That is if they go Quebec.
