At the same time that the Habs finalized the Nygren contract, they also announced the signing of Sebastian Collberg to a 3 year, entry level deal. He still has junior eligibility so unless he cracks the Montreal roster, this deal technically won't kick in until 2014-15 (it will slide a year). http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=671505

That sucks. I'm not a fan of how he's been handled in Sweden.

It should be better next year. Their new coach is Sweden's World Junior coach and he is a big fan of Collberg. He averaged 10 minutes per game with them this season, I expect that will go up if he does stay with Frolunda next year.

I can't wait to see both these guys in a Montreal uniform, especially Nygren....I definitely think he can replace Markov once Markovs current contract runs out....To Collbergs credit he has the potential to be a very good player as well, he's a very good shootout specialist

Nygren's got a long way to go to get to Markov's level. Think of him as a bigger Yannick Weber at the moment (it's not a perfect comparison but it's probably the closest to any current Hab). Collberg has the bigger upside by a considerable margin at this point although both look to be quality prospects.

I agree with you, and it will take Nygren a few years to be in the same conversation as Markov, but Markov himself was known as a offensive defenseman and had to work really hard to become the two way defenseman he is now, With any luck Nygren can do the same

Preliminary contract details suggest there may be no bonuses in Collberg's deal. He gets a max NHL and AHL salary ($925k/$70k) per year with the max signing bonus ($92,500).

That would suggest the Habs plan to at least offer to keep him in NA right?

Nope. He already has said he wants to in Sweden for this season and I'd imagine the Habs want to keep him there. He's not physically ready for the AHL and I'm sure he'd rather play in the SHL than the CHL, the competition there is better. As he's 19, his contract will slide and technically not start until 2014-15.
