Free Agency 2013: Who do we want, who can we get?

Apparently with the Flyers involving Maxime Talbot

Eeeee.. Wrong trade partner completely. Love the Parros pickup! Huge enforcer upgrade!

Good point trizzak! However I do also agree with Drive for 25...Toronto got better, Boston Got better, Detroit got better....when are WE gonna get better.

I sure hope MB can get a move or two done (trades) that will make us bigger. If not, i don't see how we'll be able to compete in the dog days of the season (games 45 to 70).

The minute, no, the second MT gives Galchenyuk more icetime, we gonna get better.

Edit : I will call bullshit every time I read "He's not ready". Just so you know...

Iginla still available ?!?!

Meh! Iginla is what 37-38 years old? I don't think he'd be a good fit.

Agreed on the Galchenyuk bit...let's just hope he avoids the sophomore slump!

I don't really have a problem the way Galch was handled except for a couple of occassions. He would have hit the "wall" at 19 if he played too much, which can cause injuries or loss of production/confidence.I'd rather see Eller eat up some of DD's minutes and see if he will be any more than a very good 3rd liner.

Last year on UFA day, we were coming off a season where we were 15th in the east.

Our summer signings were Brandon Prust, Colby Armstrong, and Francis Bouillion.

Somehow, we got better, with out making the huge free agent signings....

Spending big money on the big sexy name UFAs isnt the only way to make a team better.

That said, one lesser name UFA that I'd love to sign for a short term deal is Toni Lydman.

We also got two huge contributions from the Gallys. What rookies are the spark this year?

I believe Galchenyuk will be better than he was last season, and that Eller is about to break out....

Couldn't agree more. Galchenyuk Eller is going to be a scary 1 2 in a few years.

Or if they can find something grand and push Eller into the 3rd slot, Geez. We got ourselves a mini Staal.

Does it have to be a rookie that provides the spark? Briere, if healthy, should provide at least somewhat comparable production to Ryder while the likes of Eller, Gallagher, and Galchenyuk should all ideally take steps forward. That's a spark in itself, is it not? That should, in theory, help cover any noteworthy drops in production that some others could have.

The NHL's website released a list of their top 25 UFA's remaining, is there anyone of interest? With all the focus on character, I wonder if Brendan Morrow could be a target although I'm not sure they have the money for him as things stand. On D, Ron Hainsey is atop my list (not even on the NHL's), a good shot blocker who can move the puck, log big minutes when necessary, and has good size (although he's not a physical player).

Jerome Samson could be a good free agent pick up and he'll come cheap. He has lit up the AHL. Looks like he could be on the up.

Random player I know. I have some time on my hands at work. Or a guy like Eric Nystrom.

Not too sure for D-men. Any size out there in free agency? O'byrne lol?

Our boy is going to Winnipeg. :(

Well now Bergevin is just a Free Agency failure! :P

Jesus Price... Jagr is interested in playing for the Habs. This story comes and goes every summer.

When Jagr is 50 years old and retired there will still be rumors of him coming out of retirement to play for Habs.

Well he DID score 16 goals and add 21 assists last season in 45 games. If he has the same chemistry with Pleks as they did in Kladno, a Bourque-Plekanec-Jagr line could be a threat. But the price has to be right!

Brad Boyes anyone? Consistent point producer, only 31 and he's 6 ft 1!

6'0 everywhere I see but 1 inch isn't a big difference either way. He's the type of player I'd want on an offensive third line but I question him being able to be a legit top six guy now. He had a terrific year last year playing alongside Tavares so I suspect he'll want top six money - although I'm not sure he'll get it. He's also not much of a defensive player or a physical one so I don't think the Habs would have much interest without someone else from the top nine being moved.

Is there an unwritten part of that sentence? Is it that Jagr is interested in playing for the Habs...(if they're willing to pay more than any other team)? Over the years, that bracketed part has been the key. If it is again this time, history will repeat itself and he'll sign elsewhere. If he's willing to take a salary commensurate with that of a 3rd liner (as that's about all he can be counted on for at this stage), then maybe they can get an agreement done. I'm still not sure I'd want him, he seems too slow for this system and that he'd be a PP specialist at best. (And do they really want/need another player that would take PP time away from guys like Eller and Galchenyuk?)

Pacioretty - Briere - Gionta

Galchenyuk - Plekanec - Jagr

Bourque - Eller - Gallagher

That's one of the sexiest things I've ever seen...

So your assuming Desharnais would be moved? I wouldn't mind a Jagr signing seeing as it would be one year and it would have to come at a low price. I just dont really see where he fits in the line-up unless you move Desharnais. And Jagr is really only a one year player anyway so what would you do to fill that hole next year? Any potential UFA's next year that would look good in a Habs uniform?
