dlbalr
i was reading an article clarifying the playoff seeding. It suggested that the conference winner automatically got the last wildcard. That would mean, if it happened today, that the fourth seed or the first wildcard team would be the crossover team? Personally, i believe you should fill the four seeds in your own division and the fifth seed should be the crossover. The odd man out is usually the last guy? That is correct. With that setup, the team that finishes first in the conference is guaranteed the weaker of the two wildcard opponents which seems fair. Here's a hypothetical divisional breakdown (with random point totals): Metropolitan: PIT (100), PHI (90), NYR (85) Atlantic: BOS (105), MTL (95), TB (90) Wildcards: DET (88), WSH (82) If it's all in the division (and with 4 from both, it would be possible), Boston gets the tougher wildcard (DET) despite finishing first in the conference. By doing it this way, they're rewarded for finishing first by getting the weaker of the wildcards (WSH), even though it results in a double-crossover. BlueKross
I've got it, but I don't know how many fans are going to - too complicated. I think they should simplify for clarity to the fans. i don't think the league wants any notion out there that they are scrambling (compromising) the match-ups to get preferred partners. They should employ the KISS mentality (keep it simple stupid) and that would also apply to whatever convoluted maize they have for draft selection. The league doesn't want any hint of the outcome being rigged which might be the case if things are too complicated. Just saying!!!
DON
Just saw replays of Weber getting 20th goal of season. 2 rocket slap shots from close range, poor Sabres goalies just getting shellacked every game. Poor bastards.
dlbalr
It looks like Datsyuk is close to returning for Detroit. That should be a big boost for their playoff hopes. Naturally, the Habs play the Wings on Saturday, that may be his first game back.
BlueKross
Heading down to see Mickey Mouse for a couple weeks. Go habs Go. Chicago announcing today a new agreement with the ECHL new Fuel. Why is it that the city of indianapolis name doesn't come up when we talk NHL franchises? See you in a bit.
Commandant
In an absolute MUST WIN for the Washington Capitals (a loss and they are eliminated)… Jaroslav Halak has told coach Adam Oates that he is not comfortable facing his former team, the St. Louis Blues, and doesn’t want to start. Don't see why. He's already done a great job helping the Capitals get eliminated. Also just saw that Halak was telling media he wanted to play the game. Machine of Loving Grace
With Bernier unable to save the bacon of the Leafs, some fans are worried they'll miss the playoffs. Personally I don't think so since Washington has the Kings twice, the Sharks, Blues, Bruins and Blackhawks in their last dozen or so games and that's gonna be brutal for them, but the Leafs schedule? - Montreal - New Jersey - St. Louis - Philadelphia - Detroit - Calgary - Boston - Winnipeg - Tampa Bay - Florida - Ottawa They likely need 12 points out of that to make the playoffs. There's six points they should be getting from Calgary, Florida and Ottawa while the rest of the games really could go either way. St. Louis, Boston (and hopefully) Montreal are losses. Say it went like that, 3-3. That would leave Philly, Detroit, Winnipeg, Tampa and New Jersey to get six more points. Imagine if the Leafs missed? No more imagining! dlbalr
There may be a new disciplinarian for the playoffs. dlbalr
Let the coaching carousel begin. The first casualty is a bit of a surprise as Barry Trotz has been let go by Nashville. Machine of Loving Grace
Let the coaching carousel begin. The first casualty is a bit of a surprise as Barry Trotz has been let go by Nashville. I imagine it won't be long before Kirk Muller in Carolina is out as well. With Ron Francis taking over it's likely. I could see Muller landing an assistant coach job in Toronto. Maybe even take over their AHL team if Spott gets the head coach nod on the Leafs since Carlyle is likely to be the scapegoat there. Torterella is an interesting one. The Alquini family really, really didn't want to fire Gillis because he'll now be paid for nothing until he finds another GM job and asks for a release. Right now the family is short on cash. Which is why they've been aggressive in saying they never hired Torterella but haven't fired him yet. His contract has like another five years and he's top paid. It'd be just another guy getting paid to do nothing until someone else hires him. Oates should be getting canned too. Capuano just got the nod to stay another year in Brooklyn. DeBoer will get another year unless Lou really, really likes someone on the market. Horachek will probably get another year. I'm betting with all of the shuffling, Ron Wilson gets another shot at an NHL coaching job. Maybe even his old stomping grounds in Washington. Machine of Loving Grace
I figured as much, but if Lou decided he really wanted Muller he'd fire DeBoer and not even think about it.

DON
Every time Ii see McDonagh play, I want to vomit. What a terrible deal. 150players being drafted ahead of Datsyuk/Gallagher or Zetterberg going @ 210th wasn't smart neither. Didn't Habs get to semi-finals with Gomez, if Vanek helps get Habs to semis and Collberg is a superstar, is risk you take with many trades. Crap happens, but yes it kind of sucks to see McDonagh play as well as he is, but that trade is history.
Neech
Every time Ii see McDonagh play, I want to vomit. What a terrible deal. Yeah, I've spent way too much time thinking about the juggernaut we'd currently be with McDonagh, Subban and Markov headlining our defense. The best D in the East if not the league, and a Cup contender for sure.

Hindsight can be a bitch, lots of poor choices happen, another could be that we drafted Louis Leblanc instead of Ryan O'Reilly in 2009. Who knew! dlbalr
Horachek will probably get another year. I figured he would too but he got let go yesterday. With the roster that Florida has, surely ownership can't think he underachieved. Tallon noted that they want a veteran coach to take over that team. Does Laviolette land there?
