After Tokarski got the start last night, Robert Mayer is expected to get the nod in this one. He has been logging heavy minutes for most of the year with two of Beaulieu/Tinordi/Pateryn up with the big club until recently. I'd say he has had some adventurous moments in his own end from what I've heard (Mike, Becca, feel free to add your firsthand thoughts) but for the most part he has adapted rather well to the smaller ice surface. Bottom four pairing who specializes on the PP? There's also Dietz who I think has NHL upside. He's hurt for a bit and a first year pro so he's likely out of the equation this year. Nygren's more like Weber than Diaz in terms of offence, a powerplay weapon with a cannon for a shot. Fortunately, he's showing he can play defence a bit which is unlike Weber. It's hard to call at this point but a 3rd pairing PP specialist may be the most likely NHL potential for him (though if his strong play continues, that could be bumped up). Thrower's having himself a nice season in junior and should be helping his chances of getting his ELC. If his team is ousted early, he could join the Bulldogs late in the season. Mac Bennett has long been a favourite of mine, he'll also likely be in Hamilton late in the year. Those are the two other 'offensive-type' of blueline prospects. At this point, Nygren's ahead of both simply because of age and experience. Of those three, I had them ranked Bennett, Nygren, Thrower in our rankings (in terms of future projections/potential but all were within a pretty close group). The 'skills competition' has not been good for Hamilton - the Bulldogs are 0/11 shooting while opponents are 7/11 after Abbotsford went 3/3 vs Mayer tonight. To be fair, Tokarski struggled in his lone shootout as well earlier this year (1/4). miklin Posted November 3, 2013 Share Posted November 3, 2013 a few thoughts-I missed some of the game because of a group of Dutch exchange students sitting ahead of us who would not wait for a whistle before jumping up for Natchos and a teenage usher who would not ride herd on them. Marty St. Pierre had a horrible game regardless of his one goal. He made some horrible gaffs in the Dogs end giving away the puck and his frustration was evident. Naatinen seems to be getting a lot of chances but can't seem to finish them off. Aliu was the vicitim of some trash talk by some of his former team mates and I think it got under his skin. The hooking penalty he took was a really bad call-one handed reach-and I think his minutes in the third were cut back Peter Delmas announced as a scratch! I heard he had been bouncing around the ECHL rather than staying in Wheeling Abbotsford back up goalie was the goalie for the University of Toronto signed last minute due to a call up. Dumont got a bad goalie interference penalty when directed into Ortio by a Flames D man. Officials actually a little extra sensitive to the Flames goalie situation???? Burlington's Josh Jooris, who plays for Abbotsford, had about 40 relatives in the crowd and was a scratch! Finally-now the novelty is over, finally checked out the Anchor Bar in Jackson Square. Stay away from the "Beef on Weck". It is absolutely nothing like the product in Niagara Falls NY and Buffalo.
