What a relief. The second most important piece in a Cup victory, behind a goalie, is signed long term at a fair rate. Subban is the richest defenseman in the league and player in Montreal history, and Bergevin has two million in cap space to pay for potential bonuses.

No shame in caving to PK. The rumour mill next year with him on a short deal would be insufferable. The only loser in this deal is Eklund.

This is awesome news! We can now enjoy the rest of the summer and not worry about stupid rumours coming out of Toronto!

The numbers seem fair to me!

I favour the longterm deal and believe 8 years @ $72M is the price. Get it done.

If MB had listened to me back on July 24th, we could've avoided the last 36 hours of bullshit.

Still...so, so happy!

The bag ladies cry with relief. No human being is worth this. We must instill more justice in our culture. Market values are only a part of the questions to be asked. Of course otherwise it's great to have our kid back. But we do have to change the culture.

So ALL the money should go to the owners, and not the players who are better at what they do than anyone else in the world? That argument has never made any sense to me.

Great news, I'm as happy as a Hab fan can be right now. It's only somebody else's money, and I get to watch the Habs with their stud D man compete for a cup real soon!

Well done gotta go out to Marc Bergevin! This might have been the toughest contract for any GM to get done ever!

The argument about what people is worth has always bothered me. You are WORTH what someone is willing to pay you...period. If you have a COMMON skill that doesn't generate much profit for whoever you are working for, you probably don't get paid all that much...nor should you. How 'hard' you work is irrelevant. The socialists can cry all they want...the real world is measured on tangible numbers on a balance sheet.

The fact is that PK plays the game at a level that only a handful of men on the planet can, and doing so is part of what generates his owner and his league massive profits....therefore making him 'worth' 9 million dollars per year.

On.

The.

Cheap.

That is a great hometown discount, IMO. I was expecting between 9.5 and 10 because, really, his type of defensemen is rarified air.

If you add this contract to the one Subban signed two years ago that's a total of $77,500,000 for 10 years, which equals $7.75M/year. That is still lower than Shea Weber's AAV cap hit! LOL!
