IMHO, he would give it his everything and could contribute on the PP and play 3rd line ice time?PS: For those of you wondering, yes I was a massive Kovy fan but I want what's BEST for the organization. Thoughts?
Davehab
i was also a massive Kovalev fan, and I would love to have him back.....if he can make the cut. It would be worth it just to have him work with Galchenyuk,
johnnyhasbeen
If he wanted a tryout I would oblige. I would not expect him to make the team and I would not give him much coin if he did. He was amazing in his day, that ended almost a decade ago.

illWill
I like Kovalev as much as the next guy, but he didn't look very good out there.....a few years ago......he is 42 now, safe to say he hasn't improved since then
dlbalr
Not sure if MB should pass on this offer? IMHO, he would give it his everything and could contribute on the PP and play 3rd line ice time Lots of players give it their everything, it wouldn't just be Kovalev so that's really irrelevant. He was finished years ago and hasn't played in two seasons. Bergevin shouldn't even entertain the notion, even if it's just a tryout. No one should.
ICEWATER77
If MB wouldn't sign Jagr in any of the previous 3-4 seasons, why would he sign Kovalev? No thanks.

habs rule
I really loved Kovalev and all that skill, that he didn't use too often. I wonder if he regrets some of the slack assing he did on the ice. If he had played like he could for 75% of the time he would have been a superstar. As it was he was an ok player who showed signs of genius, with no concerted effort. He provided us with some great hockey and some great heartache with his nonsense. He is finished and I don't think he should sit by his phone waiting for it to ring. Because it ain't going to. Bon Chance L'artiste.

Lovett's Magnatones
I was really excited when Kovalev came to play in FLA, I even ran into him and took some pictures with him at a beer league tournament he played in at the Saveology ice plex. He was on a line with Huberdeau and Peter Mueller but he was always three strides behind the play. At the time Dineen ran two scoring lines and two lines of grinders. Kovalev wasn't playing on the scorers so they benched him and he quit the team midseason. That was a lousy way to end a maligned, but great career. I can confirm that he had nothing left in the tank in 2012. Guy Lafleur has as much chance as Kovalev. Not to mention, when I saw him he was in the pro shop because he forgot skate guards. I doubt much has changed with his outlook, man, you should have seen how far he was behind back checking in the beer league tournament!!!
illWill
I doubt much has changed with his outlook, man, you should have seen how far he was behind back checking in the beer league tournament!!! Back checking and beer league don't belong in the same sentence. Unless that sentence is "man, I don't do any back checking in my beer league "

I'd love to have that guy out there again working his magic. But I sure don't know if he's got it left in him to get it done as a specialist. Loved that guy.
