Kovalev Wants to Return to NHL?

I'm surprised how many people would want him back. He was probably one of my favorite players as well and trading for him is one of the two most memorable trades for me in recent history (Vanek)... But that was the past.

the Kovalev signing was how I stumbled upon habsworld ... it would be a dream to have Kovy back - but I feel ultimately there is no way he'd cut it on our team at his age.

There..three years to reflect upon the error of his ways!

I'd love to have that guy out there again working his magic.

But I sure don't know if he's got it left in him to get it done as a specialist.

Loved that guy.

he doesn't. its over.

I am getting the skates out and going into training maybe I can make a comeback. I don't think I beat out Carey for #1 though.

As Jauque Lemaire once said after a game when told Mario was complaining about how Jauques team plays the game, and the obstruction. "If we play the game the way Mario wants to play it, I'LL make a come back".

I loved Kovalev for his sheer entertainment value. Even when he was having one of his patented 'bad' seasons, it was a total entertainment psychodrama - long walks with Gainey on the Lachine Canal, etc. (Our mistake was in casting him as a core guy and team leader; a bona-fide blood-and-guts guy like Koivu must have had nightmares about that).

And Kovalev in his prime would be great for this team - that added elite scorer everybody wants. The 'leadership' core could harmlessly absorb one ditz. But at 42? Please.

Kovalev should regret not making more out of his prime years. He is the opposite of Gallagher, who maxes out every scrap of potential; and Kovy could have been one of the greatest players of his generation had he had the will to do so. He was basically Stephane Richer without the excuse of suffering from clinical depression. But still, what entertainment he gave us! All the best to AK27, may he reconcile himself to retirement and find something worthy of his gifts. Just not in a Habs jersey.

How come you and I always agree but you put it out there so eloquently?

The only reason that this is coming up (Kovalev return), is that money is running a little thin in Russia which may expose those, of long in tooth (42 yr old Kovalev) to the unemployment line. Also apparently, the Khl position may have weaken enough that I am told that a transfer agreement is close. This may be the best year ever to raid KHL talent , barring an agreement.

The financial situation in Russia doesn't have anything to do with Kovalev - he didn't play at all last year after spending a season in the Swiss NLB league (their equivalent of the AHL). Him saying he wants to play in the NHL again is just wishful thinking.

The transfer agreement needs to get signed soon as if it does, it will subject teams to the June 15th deadline which is fast approaching.

I don't think L'artiste is worried about the unemployment line. He should have lots of money stashed away. But that is not to say that if some GM offered him money to play hockey that he wouldn't jump at it. He likes money.

This is no different to when Chris Chelios played in the AHL in hopes of getting back to the NHL, or Martin Brodeur playing for the Blues, or Claude Lemieux and Jeremy Roenick un-retiring to go play in San Jose, or Theo Fleury making a pre-season return to the Calgary Flames (and playing more than well enough to play in the NHL again but Calgary cut him for some odd reason).

I know some people hate it when veterans "don't know when to retire" but when you love the game, it's hard to leave. I don't hate on them for trying. If I just played 15 years at something and someone told me it's time to be put out to pasture, the last thing I'm going to do is agree with them.

Well the sad part about Kovalev is it really wasn't his decision to leave the game. Simply put no one wanted him, cause he was ineffective.

Wishful thinking is right. He didn't play last year because nobody wanted him? The year before he was reduced to the Swiss NLB because he wasn't able to secure a contract in a higher league?--- My point about the transfer agreement is that it would be in Russia's best interest to sign or risk raiding. Players go were the money is.

No different than Chelly, Marty, Claude, JR, Theo ............... nor will the results be.

For someone who claims not to "hate" ....the word sure appears in a lot of your posts

Nobody make the come back like Guy and Mario did.

Ok this needs to go away. Might as well bring Larry Robinson back to mentor Tinordi.

Tinordi is washed up.. he can't even punch his own way out of a wet paper bag without feeling concussion like symptoms. trade him! he's a vegetable

Please refresh my memory of the goal totals for the Montreal Canadiens from top to bottom in the playoffs? PS: don't sarcastically compare yourself to a veteran NHL that had a hell of a career.

AMEN to this, nobody wants to go out on a note like he has..hence the entire premise behind starting this thread! If he takes 1M,plays 3rd line mins and helps people like chucky and the anemic PP why not? For the fans on here that think we're 1 or 2 pieces away from winning a cup...dream on. Save on cap and if he doesn't pan then at least retire a member of the CH [community involvement and charity commitment still exist in MTL..love it!]

What makes you think Kovalev, a guy who couldn't score very well in his final NHL days, a player who quit on his last NHL team, and a player who couldn't find anywhere to play last season, could help an NHL team at this stage, let alone play 3rd line minutes (something he couldn't do three years ago)? His quality playing days are well behind him...and it has been that way for several years now. He can't help this team; he can't help any team.

Forget this nonsense about how he'd give 100% (which is rather funny considering he didn't come close to doing so his first time around in Montreal or anywhere else for that matter), or charity/community involvement. Lots of former players still have charities or special events in Montreal, it doesn't mean they should go bring those guys back. If he wants to retire as a Hab (something I highly doubt), give him a one day deal or perhaps something more appropriately suited to his current skill set, an offer to play for the old timers team.

A) that is a dumm statement bout Tinordi.

B) unfortunate that you lack a sense of humour.

c) read Brians comment 3 times MAYBE you will get it.

Looks at user name.

Looks at thread subject.

Doesn't take a word person says serious.

Even funnier, since I know you are serious! Haha
