"The Habs Fans Speak Their Mind" - A Musical GDT

Yeah, The Habs fans speak their mind....

Verse 1

Now three Habs fans drunk on St Catherine's St

Discussing their team as they are said to be

Said one to the other, "now listen you two"

There's a certain rumour that can't be true

A team that started on a nine and 0 pace

goes .200 until they're out of the playoff race

They need bigger forwards and signed Paul Byron

The GM calls a press conference to laugh about a Therrien firing

Yeah, The Habs Fans Speak Their Mind

Verse 2

There's something funny thinking of hockey in May

When the coach can't stop playing David Desharnais

He plays him with Max, one game after another

Until you swear he's a pee wee coach, playing two brothers

Yeah, The Habs Fans Speak Their Mind

Verse 3

And another thing you thought you'd never see

The free agent acquisition crash his truck into a tree

A team of character, supposed to play for each other

Signs Kassian and Semin over the Summer

And if not for the expensive season ticket fees

All you'd see in the Centre Bell are empty seats

Yeah, the Habs fans speak their mind

Verse 3

Here's another thing this team won't do

Go out after a blowout and get into a stew

There's no stickwork or shoving or nary a scrum

Of mice not men, they have become

Yes, the Habs have descended into worthless bums

But from Richard and Le Gross bill they did not come

Yeah, the Habs fans speak their mind

The Big Gorilla is gonna play is he!

He should at least give the Leafs a PP or two, so seems a good call if of the tanking kind.

Every time McCarron is mentioned, you crush my hopes Don!

John Scott should have filled Smith Pelly's place tonight especially if MB is going to move him at the deadline, can't afford to have more of these dime a dozen players get injured (Gilbert/DD)! When I look at Smith Pelly tonight, I'm going to envision one big draft pick with a blank face and a question mark skating around, I don't care if its for a 6th rounder.

On a side note, Leafs will probably hand this one to us on a silver platter.

They didn't need to bring anyone up if they wanted to sit Smith-Pelly. Lessio is likely to be scratched.

As for trading Smith-Pelly, he's the highest guy left up front on my trade odds but I can easily see there being no real market for him. It's not like he's really standing out at the moment (or at any point this year). If I'm a buying team with a roster spot open, a waiver claim for someone like Chris Porter (who is on waivers today) makes more sense than trading for Smith-Pelly. I don't think they're really risking anything by playing him.

That was a predictably sloppy period. I like what I've seen from Danault thus far, he certainly doesn't look out of place. They're not easing him either, over 5 minutes in the period. Eller leads the way in ice time up front, that's not normal.

Well one of the two has to happen...

The 3rd line is having a nice game. Danault is strong and de la Rose looks more aggressive than usual as well.

I didn't think De La Rose looked that great.

Larry Eller must come first?

Smith-Pelly can help teams that lack a gritty depth bottom 6 guy that are chasing but don't want to break the bank at the deadline

I have Eller at I think 30%. (It was originally 25% but I bumped it up 5% before posting it.) He's lower simply because of the contract, two years left at $3.5 M for a cap hit (and even higher in salary) for an inconsistent 2nd/3rd line tweener. There's a limited market for him. Smith-Pelly is much easier to fit in terms of a teams' cap structure.

Nice game from the Habs overall. The youngsters looked good, guys like Eller/Smith-Pelly helped their trade value, and Pacioretty picked up a couple which should help his confidence. Condon had another strong effort as well which is nice to see. Regardless of whether or not they win, I'm hoping for more consistent (good) play from him.
