I'm not sure Redmond will have much of a trade market considering he was available in free agency back in July.  If other teams wanted him, they might have offered more than the minimum.  (I'm not saying it's impossible but I don't think there's going to be a market for him.)

Well I was wrong about Redmond as he starts the year with Habs and Barberio gets sent down.  I'm surprised he cleared waivers.  I still say Condon gets dealt before the start of the season and both Lehkonen and McCarron make the team.

Both would work just fine, I believe.

Expected lines of :

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher

Lehkonen - Plekanec - Radulov

Two pretty strong lines there, on paper at least.

Or...

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Radulov  : (We've seen good things from Chuck + Radu yesterday. Two creative players playing together can't hurt.)

Lehkonen - Plekanec - Gallagher  : (Plekanec feeds Lehkonen while Gally stands in front of the net.)

Okay, I'm going with this to start the year:

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Gallagher

Lehkonen - Plekanec - Radulov

Carr - Desharnais - Shaw

Byron - Danault - Mitchell

Extra: Flynn, Andrighetto

Beaulieu - Weber

Markov - Petry

Emelin - Pateryn

Extra: Redmond

Price

Montoya

McCarron will be the first call-up if there's an injury.  Sergachev will get sent to junior and Condon goes to Las Vegas in the hopes for job.  At a casino.

I like those lines, and everything I read about Lehkonen suggests a very promising kid. What I'd ultimately expect, though, is a rotating 6th FW. Carr and Shaw will probably slot in once Lehkonen hits the wall that rookies usually hit.

I thought about lines for a bit and this is what I believe would be the best lineup :

Pacioretty - McCarron - Shaw  :  60 sec  Hit & Grind

Lehkonen - Galchenyuk - Radulov :  60 sec  Run and Gun

Desharnais - Plekanec - Gallagher : 50 sec Passing Play

Mitchell - Danault - Byron :  40 sec Neutral Zone Trap

Ya, okay, Hit & Grind is overpowered but 60 second Run and Gun? In a league for of Neutral Zone Trap teams? Are you high?

...

Trade you Maxim Afinogenov for a 3rd rounder.

Well... I was a good chunk of the time... ;)

What about  Jack Johnson for 3  first rounders ?

Who makes their second line the best combo? Always 1st or 3rd, my friend. I'd also move Danault up to the Patches line, put Desharnais in his spot, then Carr into his spot. Send McCarron to the farm to make a deep Calder Cup run. All about the farm!

Yes.  Yes it is.  I still can't believe my AHL squad lost in the final year of the league (though winning on the NHL side offset that frustration...).

Brian, we all know you still lose sleep over that AHL loss. NHL success is no comfort to GM "Sure this deal is fair, but I'm still not doing it unless you trade me an AHL star too" dlbalr.

I would happily have traded one on my Stanley Cups for a Calder Cup. I almost always had the best team in the East, but don't think I even got to face Brian until I took over Calgary and was in the same conference. And then he kept me out of the finals himself.

I just read a book about the real life Chill, but sadly I can't recommend it. It was written by the guy who ran the team and the entire book came off as self aggrandizing. Editing and organization was sloppy as well. I didn't realize their marketing success made national news both in the US and Canada, but he beat that like a dead horse throughout the book. Which is sad because they did pull off some cool stuff. Like having the ECHL commish sign a fake letter about taking the team out of Columbus in order to coerce their landlord to give them more dates for home games.

I think I read that too about Shaw.

Based on who the CH may want to protect from the expansion draft, I think they will let Danault play himself into Deharnais' spot and that they will let the three others (Andrighetto, Carr, Hudon) contend for the last spot in the protection list.

I also hope they keep the 2 extra defenders, and that they manage Markov's playing time in what should be his last season. With a healthy Price this team should make it to the playoffs and if the team's newly acquired leadership can deliver as advertised they should do OK but unfortunately short of contending for the cup.

Pacioretty - Galchenyuk - Radulov

[***] - Plekanec -Gallagher

[***] - Desharnais - Shaw

Byron - Flynn - Mitchell

[***]Andrighetto/Carr/Hudon/Danault

Beaulieu - Weber

Markov - Petry

Barberio - Pateryn

Emelin

Price

Montoya/Condon

I just wanted to repost this since I do not get too many predictions right :) I don't post often, but enjoy reading everyone's contributions  :1gohabs:

Still good with this bit though Al?

Could be bang on, but gall darn hard to see this 3rd straight great start to season and not envision a deep run in May-June as more likely than not.:wavetowel:

If this core does not contend this year, it's hard to imagine them ever doing it. Price, Patches, and Weber are or should be at their peaks. Galy seems to have emerged as a legit top-line FW. Radulov has been a gigantic addition - FINALLY a triumphant patch-up job by MB, after the debacles of Parenteau, Briere, and Semin - but not one we will necessarily be able to retain, and the loss of which can't but mean a significant step back. Pleks may already have reached his best before date and he's not going to get any better from here on out. Sure, the future is unknowable, but this is a team built to WIN NOW, surely.
