According to Engels source, Pfeffer (who was hired prior to the 2015-16 season for his analytics background) made an impassioned and elaborate presentation to management to dissuade them from following through on the Subban trade.

Maybe not much correlation, but I find it funny that Bergevin kicks this guy to the street, but keeps his coaching staff intact after the team put up the worst record in the nhl from December on.

Why would he fire his coaching staff. It wasn't there fault we lost - it was Subban's. that's why we got rid of him.

It wasn't MT's fault that he couldn't employ his only coaching strategy - "stop the puck Carey", so why would he or the coaching staff get fired???

And according to Pfeffer himself, he provided a report and never met with management. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/former-canadiens-analyst-matt-pfeffer-clarifies-subban-trade/

The guy signed a one year contract, the one year ran out last week and they opted not to renew. Big whoop. He lasted just the one year with his previous NHL team too. We've seen over the years that quite a few of the analytics guys don't last long. They'll hire someone else and there's a very good chance that person's stint with the Habs will also be short-lived.

Of course if it even remotely reflects badly on Habs Mgmt, it is made a big whoop these days.

And you are really surprised by that, considering the year they had last year, with MB doing nothing absolutely nothing during the worst collapse in NHL history - if the leaf's were an 18 wheeler going off the road, than the habs last year were a 747 being flown into a mountain with clueless pilots!!

Not holding anyone in management accountable, with the exception of a coaching consultant and an analytics guy is unacceptable.

If you say so, I partially agree.

Don't forget punting Subban.

Ya, it's too bad Pfeffer doesn't play on Bergevin's shinny team. I think that's how you keep your Job in Montreal

Well. I wouldn't mind 76 mill either

He is a wicked player and maybe that is even a home town discount? But a lot of $ by our standards, might be just a 3 year deal in NBA or MLB though.

They are likely going with Sportlogiq next.

A notable trade today, Brassard and a 7th to Ottawa for Zibanejad and a 2nd. That feels like a win-now move for Ottawa which doesn't make much sense considering they're not in a position to win now.

Pretty huge win for New York if you ask me. Zibanajed who will probably be nearly or just as good as brassard next season, plus 5 years younger. AND a second on top.

Zibanejad playing with Zuccarelo I could see become a very dangerous duo.

Zibanajed will looking for a new contract next year. Definitely won't be cheap.

They have this mind set they're a contender. It was the same with the Phaneuf move.

Ottawa operates like how Montreal would operate if the L'Antichambre was GM. They obsess over local players.

This deal looks awful to me for Ottawa. Sure you got a guy who can put up 60 points but you gave up a second round pick and a 23 year old who was only nine points away. Brassard is a definitive 7.5 top 30 centreman who does everything above average but Mika isn't far off. It's actually a couple rungs under the Subban/Weber deal but a similar mindset.

Haha. Now all they need is to grow the same beards. ZZtop

I like that. It told my buddy the other day that the new acquisitions for MTL this year could be marketed this way:

Andrew, 'Lov, Weber - Phantom of the Opera

It takes some imagination but it works.

Then he suggested 'Phantom of the "Crap"ra....'

Ouch.

Former Hab defenceman Ryan O'Byrne has retired. He had bounced around in recent years - after joining the Leafs in 2013 (I didn't even remember that), he played in the Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Sweden over the past three seasons.

Just this morning I was wondering "whatever happened to that old purse snatcher."
