Could our lineup look like this

I always get roasted for projected lineups, but what the hell.

And I know landing Tavares is a long shot, but does the Galchenyuk trade actually give us the cap space to finally do that?

Here are my thoughts (tear themn apart).

The projected cap hit for next season is between $78-82 million, so let's round it to $80 million.

As of right now, the Habs have $61.438 million committed for next season.  That includes 22 players (see below), but doesn't account for RFA's - Danualt, Des LaRose, Carr and L. Shaw.

My scenario keeps Danault, adds Tavares, Filip Zadina and Plekanec.  And, although it doesn't trade anyone we currently have, it doesn't deal with DLR, Carr and L.Shaw.

With my 'fantasy' scenario (or nightmare for some), we would spend $77.938 million, leaving us a little over $2 million for contingency plans.  (I would love to get rid of A. Shaw, Alzner and Shlemko freeing up another $10.625 million but that is another story).

Here is my projected lineup (it is far from perfect).  Can we get Tavares for $12, or do we try Statsny, or someone else)?  Can we sign Danault for $2.5 as an RFA?  I am not sure?  But here goes...

Pacioretty ($4.51)       Tavares ($12)      Drouin ($5.5)

Domi ($3.1)       Danault ($2.5)    Gallagher ($3.75)

Byron ($1.16)    Plekanec ($1)    Zadina ($1)

Deslauriers ($.950)  Froese ($.650)   A. Shaw ($3.9)

Extra forwards - Hudon ($.650), Lehkonen ($.925), Scherbak ($1.063)

Mete ($.870)    Weber ($7.857)

Alzner ($4.625)   Petry ($5.5)

Juulsen ($1.063)   Reilly ($.725)

Extra D - Benn ($1.1), Shlemko ($2.1)

Price ($10.5)

Niemi ($.950)

RFA's not accounted for De LaRose, L. Shaw, Carr.  I'd still like to find a place for DLR...

Anyway, rip it apart.  Certainly switch up lines and D pairings, but this is what we have right now, assuming we draft Zadina at third overall.  The only additions are Tavares and Pleks (who seems to want to come back).  I'd also love to add another D - but we need to find a way to get rid of Alzner or A. Shaw to even start thinking about that.

Domi                    O'Reilly                   Gallagher

Byron                   Drouin                     Lehkonen

Hudon                  Danault                  A. Shaw

Deslauriers         De La Rose            Scherbak

McCarron

Johnson             Weber                      Price

Mete                    Petry                        Niemi

Alzner                  Juulsen

Reilly

McCarron and Scherbak will not clear waivers, so they'll both be on the team unless one or both are traded.

I can see Pacioretty being dealt as part of an O'Reilly deal.  Not sure what the other pieces would be.

I can also see both Benn and Schlemko moved out in seperate deals.

I doubt whoever we draft with the 3rd pick will be in the lineup, if we even still have the 3rd pick by the draft.

I am guessing Patches is the LD on the Tavares line

I wouldn't sign Pleks to play 3C but at most 4C

And I do not see the point of keeping Ben and Schlemnko ; ineb(or none) would improve the lineup

Good catch.  Yes, it is Pacioretty on the first line (not Plekanecs).

And I don't want Been or Schlemko either, we are just stuck with them until their contracts run out, unless we can trade them somewhere.

With the disappointment of Tavares not even entertaining an offer I can only hope he goes to SJ and that opens up a short term stop gap with jumbo joe.

Pacioretty  UFA  Lehkonan

Domi  Danault Gallagher

Drouin Evans Byron

Hudon DeLaRose Scherbak

Delauriers

Shaw

MacCarron

Carr

UFA Weber

Mete Petry

Reilly Juulsen

Alzner

Moravcik

Schlemko

Benn

Sklenicka

Price

Niemi

UFA C= Thornton*

* 1 year at 10 million?

UFA D= Markov*

1 year 6 million?haha

Also... If. We aren’t picking up a legit top 4 Dman (only option might be DeHaan or to a lesser extent Green) I think we should  just stay pat there... obviously trades are on the table.

Bold =trade block

underline=  injured to start

This is one of the youngest teams in hockey....

Nothing about that lineup screams exciting team to watch. I could handle not-exciting when the team was winning, but when you combine not winning and not exciting, count me out.

That's a good hughes 2019 line up. Sounds good to me. Time to lose for hughes. Fallin for dahlin almost worked.

As much as "Lose for Hughes" seems like a goal the CH could reach next season; I think they will disappoint us with a wild card spot in the playoffs and a second round disheartening loss to Tampa

For all the pessimism around here, two things should be kept in mind:

1. We have no idea exactly what the roster will be come September.

2. Price is very unlikely to be a POS for a second straight year.

So I agree with the gist of you post, although I think winning a playoff round will probably be a stretch. My expectation is a bubble team that makes the playoffs amidst all kinds of fan excitement about the 'comeback season,' before we get eliminated relatively easily.

Bergevin will keep his job on the strength of a team that 'surpasses expectations' - expectations which are only so low because of his farcical levels of incompetence.

That's how the Ballard Leafs roll.

In some ways this is worse than Ballard. Ballard was cheap and a little evil. Molson is just in la la land with what he actually has. He's Homer chasing a burning pig on wheels in Springfield. Eventually he will come to the conclusion that it isn't still good, but it sadly might be after the team is so messed up it will take years to repair, even if some youngsters pan out.

My greatest fear is Bergevin is still GM in 2020 when Lafreniere is going top 2. Probably the best French Canadian prospect since Lecavalier. If we are trying for 8th when him and Byfield are up there ready to change a franchise forever, that might be too much for me to handle. My passion at this point is in hating this organization for it's current state, but a situation like that and I might just not care at all anymore.

So after seeing what buffalo got for O'Reilly I saw lets move Pacioretty to center and see how he does. Maybe we can get even more for him.

Have the team look like this

Domi  - Pacioretty  - Gallagher

Byron  - Danault   -  Drouin

Lehkonen  - Plekenec  - Shaw

Deslauriers  - Peca  -  Armia

Rose, Hundon

Mete - Weber

Alzner  - petry

Ouellet - schlemko

Reily, Benn

Price

Niemi

I am just trying not to put the sports news or Reg news on here in Toronto. They already think they should be handed the cup. Man its going to be a long summer and hockey season. I hope they find some way to f*^k this up.

I thought it would be interesting to project a lineup for two years from now when the Drafts start coming up through the system and some of the young veterans are more mature.

To look forward to better days.

Here is a 2020-2021 lineup:

Drouin     -Kotkaniemi     -Gallagher

Domi       -Danault            -Lehkonen

Olofsson-Suzuki              -Ylonen

Hudon    -Poehling           -Bitten

Ikonen/Vejdemo/Evans

Mete    -Weber

Reilly    -Juulsen

Alzner  -Brook

Valiev/Lernout

Price/Lindgren
