Richard09
So Malkin got the star treatment suspension...why bother? They should make it clear, if you are a star you get away with murder.

True, likely partially an internal union issue and partly board of governors unwritten SOP. Didnt the Rocket get suspended when he should of been and fans went bonkers. Cost to owners for suspending a Danault to 20 games is almost zero vs suspending a McDavid for 20games would impact every arena Oilers play in. I agree, the days of the Richard riot are old and gone, players are not treated like gods now, and don't deserve it. The issue is fairness and equality, that's why police investigations into incidents like the Chara hit and Bertuzzi raise the question about automatic police investigation if the league cannot conduct themselves appropriately. Commandant
I dont know that bertuzzi makes your point well as he was suspended for the rest of the 2004 season plus all of the 2004 playoffs. I also think that richard's suspension was even an outlier in the 50s, which was one of the reasons for the riot. So im not sure that the league has changed either. I do agree that suspensions are generally too light, just dont think that your examples are the best at showing things have changed over the years in the nhl. Its always been too loght with a couple of exceptions

Commandant
Buffalo was the worst team in the league last season. They have made strides this season. But no one should have expected them to go from 31st straight into the playoffs. Some teams have done that, but most teams don't. They've taken a step forward, now their goal will be to take another step forward next season. Mittelstadt, Dahlin have huge room for growth. Heck even guys like Eichel can still get better. Not saying they wont get better, just should be a good team by now (Oilers of course are same but they do have a McDavid to build around). In the big picture, being a Sabres fan is painful. Not only have they spent a decade in the wilderness, they got robbed of their closest shot at a Cup when the league arbitrarily waived its stupid toe-in-the-crease rule for Brett Hull. They've had some great players, but really, theirs is a record of futility, despite very loyal fans. At least a team like the Blues is consistently a strong club despite never winning, while the equally futile Canuckleheads had several years as a powerhouse within recent memory. And the Oil at least got to enjoy some of the greatest championship teams of all time. Buffalo is an unfortunate sad-sack franchise.

Every bit the powerhouse the Canucks were in 2010-11 and 2011-12, just with a conference final loss instead of a Stanley Cup final loss.

DON
Islanders are 6th in NHL after 60 games after losing Tavares, similar to Habs, who would of guessed they would do as well as have and be where are now? Maybe that Trotz guy is a pretty good coach. Just 146 goals against, easily best in league (31 fewer than Habs).

WHAT The best Habs comparison is hudon, offensive skill but scratched for bad defensive game Lehkonen is nothing like that. He is great defensively but is struggling to put up points

Yep and they better win because they only have a couple draft picks left for the next 2 drafts and there prospect pool isn’t very good. If I was looking at the future I’d be pretty concerned but let’s see what happens.
