Commandant
Credit where its due, Niemi had a hell of a game.
dlbalr
Nice to see them pull it out (and actually make a good play in OT, an area where they've struggled this season). 4-2 on the road trip, not too shabby...
Commandant
Byron, Domi, Petry as the first three over the boards in OT... all can really skate. Looks like Julien is finally figuring out that speed and offence is the key in overtime.
Trizzak
8 out of 12 points on the holiday road trip is quite the accomplishment. Habs back in the playoffs, but the Bruins and Islanders both have games in hand.
zumpano21
That OT winner was a perfect cap to 2018. Petry!
tomh009
Two games above .500 — I’m happy! And Niemi played a good game, too. Hopefully that’s not just an aberration.
dlbalr
A small note from this one - this was game #40 for Kotkaniemi which means he has now officially accrued a season towards UFA eligibility.
DON
20:18 for Tatar? Danault 2g 6shots, 68% FO Kotkaniemi, 4 shots, at least 1 more post hit, 67% on FO. (Pettersson has 19g with just 2 more shots than Kotkaniemi has) Byron led team with 5 hits.
Habs owned the 70's
Petry for Norris?
IN THE HEARTS OF MEN
And he’s accrued those 40 games for all the right reasons... can’t wait till those posts and potential assists start going in more frequently.
Trizzak
Saw on Reddit that this was the first game since March 23rd, 2018 that Niemi let in fewer than 3 goals.

He only played two more games after that at the end of the last season. And then the struggles this season, which are all too familiar. And he was even OK (though not great) at the beginning of the season: after five games he was still at a 3.3 GAA and a 4-1 record. But in the next five games he allowed over 25 goals (GAA over 5) and looked very shaky. Why? I suspect it's (almost) all mental. But what got him into that state, and is he out of it now, or was the Dallas game just a one-off fluke, I really have no idea.

Maybe if we sign him after next offseason we can get him on a deal that becomes a bargain down the road!
