Commandant
Mete burned on that one by Barkov, and nice finish.

Lots of hockey left and I doubt they are all going to stay hot. Things change quickly and 8 days ago the Habs were the team winning

There are still 25 or so games remaining. The season is not over but clearly making the playoffs is getting harder by the day (at this pace). tomh009
Third period was almost as ugly as against TB. This from the team that was playing strong third periods consistently early in the season.

But also only seven points away from second place in the Atlantic. If they can regroup, (almost) anything can happen in the next 24 games. Neech
Second game of a back to back coming off a tough stretch of games. Florida has strong special teams and some skill up front, and Niemi sunk us early (hindsight being 20/20 obviously, but saving Price for tonight might have been the move to get something from this weekend). I can't help but compare Kotka to Barkov as #3 overall Finnish centres, hopefully our guy will become that level of player (interestingly, he only hit ppg production in his fifth season). Nice to see Domi respond well after a dumb penalty. We just didn't have it tonight after playing very hard yesterday against the class of the league. No disrespect, but the pregame ceremony didn't help either, it was pretty weird that they had both teams shake everyone's hands on the ice before the game. Man, when Drouin's bad he's BAD. Taking the play offside, coughing up the puck for prime chances, taking bad penalties. Can't help but agree with Cuke's assessment that he has a case of the dumbs (I always thought he looked dumb, but that's another story). I wonder if good coaching can help turn him around or if he'll always be this way. On the other hand, when he's hot he looks like the fastest and most skilled player on the ice. Kovalev comes to mind as someone who could be a hero or a zero, but have we ever had a player with such a wide range of performance? We definitely need to outsource to get a powerplay specialist behind the bench this offseason. Kirk seems like a good coach and the fans love him, but offensive tactics might not be his strong point. The Chicoutimi Cucumber
I'm not huge on predictions, but I stand by what I said after the TB game. Drouin is eventually going to cost this team hugely with an idiotic play at a critical time (e.g., a key play in an elimination game). Even if he matures into a star and becomes less prone to those clunkers, guys tend to revert to type in those critical moments, and so he will. You heard it here first. Trizzak
Time to waive Niemi and give Lindgren a shot? Or try the trade route for a backup, like Miller or one of Philly's dozen goalies?

Kovalev cost the team with his dumb selfish plays, ie dropping his glove on the slash that led to the Bruins winning game 4 way back in that series that we eventually came back to win (was that 04? I forget). But he also provided enough positive value to make up for that.

But if Drouin has that talent level, then I would accept the trade off. Kovalev could win games single-handedly. I'd also note that, as much as I loved Kovalev for his sheer entertainment value, you don't win championships with guys like that as core players. Kovy was best positioned as a lethal supplemental piece (whereas we tried to make him our key offensive player).

There will be plenty of goalies available on July 1st if the Habs want to give Lindgren some competition for the back up role next season. JoeLassister
I thought that Mete was quite exposed yesterday. Barkov and cie were entring the zone on his side a lot and created TONS of scoring chances on the rush.
