The-Habby2919
Who do you think he will pair up with if and when he makes the team?.... Im thinking Dandeneault.
puck7x
Breaking news: Man walks on the moon! Very very old news, I have no idea why TSN is only reporting it now. EDIT: I just merged this thread with the old Streit thread. [Edited on 8-25-05 by Fanpuck33]

Streit, Hainsey and Bouillon give Julien 2 options. All 3 are capable of playing a regular shift on the 3rd line (Bouillon is good enough for 2nd line IMO). So now if we need to bench someone (up front or on D) or if we get an injury, we can always push Dandy up front and play the odd man out on the 3rd line. We are pretty deep on D (no true first liners, but a ton of 2nd liners) and will have lots of options this year. At least we won't be calling up guys like Dykhuis or Traverse to fill in if we lose a blueliner this season.
huzer
Never really heard of Streit, but hopefully he does well. As far as Swiss league stats go, don't forget Oleg Petrov led that league in scoring a few times.
Howie_Morenz
I am willing to wait and see what Streit will bring to the Habs. I trust the organization for finding talent and signing them. Was this guy not a draft pick of Montreal in 2004, I think I read this somewhere. Around the league(T-Dot, Alberta, BC) nobody is picking Montreal to do anything, this is good because our favorite hockey team can slip under the radar and suprise them. We are going to really need to rely on our D if wide open hockey does appear. Theo will be up to the task, but trying to stop 55 shots a night might be too much. We have to take a chance on D-men like Streit. (Jose will sign, can you imagine him in another uniform?)
pfloro
lets not be to hasty maybe we should give the team a chance maybe say between 10 to 20 games if gainey leaves a little cap space it will be easier then to make a deal that will then help the team its a lot smarter to evaluate and then change rather then to speculate and screw up what could potentially be a really good team
Tony_
I found it weird that some sites are actually reporting this yesterday when this signing happend a while back. Hope Streit gets a crack in the Habs line up this season. I just hope he doesn't end up in the AHL. I was also reading somewhere that even guts like Hamuis (sp?) and Zedlicky (sp?) from Nashville were guys who were drafted in the NHL a while ago but didn't make it into the league. They then went on to play in Europe where they got signed by Nashville because of their performance while there and now are part of an important piece of Nashville. Hamuis (sp?) made the all-star team last season if I remember right.

IMO from the 6 or so games I saw of the WC's Streit was one of the top defensemen in the tournament Markov was also one of the top D's, got to see them play against one another. Hamuis (sp?) made the all-star team last season if I remember right. It was actually Kimmo Timonen and Marek Zidlicky - both were playing in Europe for quite a long time before going over to North America. Now Timonen is the Preds best d-man and Zidlicky a very dangerous powerplay specialist. I'm sure Streit can reach a similar status with the HABS. Psycing
I believe it was Rafalski who was a late bloomer as well. Now look at what he's done with the Devils. I look forward to seeing if Streit can rise to the occasion.
nam
Everyone keeps talking about buying out Rivets contract to sign someone else. What is the point of that? Montreal already has enough defencemen, and they have lots of cap space and do not need to sign any forwards. So instead of freeing up the uneeded space, why not let Rivet stay, he's a stay at home defenceman, Saku Koivu's best friend on the team (keep the captain happy) and a great leader (help the youngsters i.e Komisarek & Hainsey) Souray, Markov, Dandenault, Rivet, Streit, Bouillion, Komisarek & Hainsey. That looks like a solid D core to me, and if someone has to be moved as I agree 8 is too many, then do it via trade to get some sort of compensation, who buy him out for no reason and to receive nothing. It will be interesting to see how Streit does, personally I think he'll do well, but it's better to wait and be safe than start getting rid of players now and not have enough. Depth is good, injuries are a big part of the game, look at our number one D-man Souray. Can't have too much depth
