Perezhogin vs. Dagenais

I know that this is a bit off-topic (with me, who's surprised?) but I find that this info about Perezhogin very interesting:

Alexander Perezhogin was the third player drafted from the same Russian team, Omsk, that year.

Alexandr Svitov was picked 3rd overall by Tampa Bay and Stanislav Chistov was picked 5th overall by Anaheim. (By the way, two picks later, Montreal took Mike Komisarek. Perezhogin was picked 25th overall by Montreal.

So far, Svitov and Chistov have not lived up to anywhere near expectations. It looks like Perezhogin will outdo the other two and quite handily. It might be noted, however, that Svitov spent only one year in the AHL (in Hamilton, by the way) and Chistov went right into Anaheim's line-up. He's was demoted to the AHL and now is back in Russia. I wonder if this is an indication that Montreal's wiser to let their prospects grow quietly. I suppose that there's no fixed answer on that but it would seem to be that slow and easy works better in most cases that flash & burn

Just another aside, it goes to show that it isn't just Montreal's draft team that makes picks that don't work out. 2001 was a ridiculously great year for Montreal - Komisarek, Perezhogin & Plekanec. Andrew Archer and Duncan Milroy weren't total busts either. They could end up being solid AHLers. Not bad picks here too, really.

IT seems a number of Habs have been lazy defensively, and I'm sure Julien will be working on that in practice today. I expect in Toronto on Saturnday night to see far different games from Ribeiro, Ryder, and Souray, and wouldn't be surprised if Dagnenais wasn't dressed. If he is and plays poorly again, then Julien will probably make a move.

But from watching other games and seeing highlights it looks like most other teams are struggling a bit defensively as well, so maybe everyone just has to get used to the new rule.

It just goes to show you how much clutching and grabbing was part of the game. Except for the rash of penalties because players are being conditioned not to clutch and grab, I think the on ice product if far better.

Do any of you really think both of Ryders goals, and Higgins goals would have happened last night? No, they'd have been mugged before they even saw the puck. And Perezhogins goal would have been called on the two line pass.

Far better NHL

The problem is, if you replace Dagenais with Perezhogin, you still have a line of 3 players who are not great defensively.

Last night what painful to watch. When Ribeiro wasnt around his blueline waiting for Souray & Dandenault to get the puck and dared to backcheck and help out defensively, he was overwhelmed. Dagenais and Ryder were even worst. I dont think I've seen any of those two backcheck past the circles.

Thing is... Zednik isnt that great defensively either. So there's not that many options for Julien as far as complementing wingers for Ribs & Ryder goes.

I'd try this:

Perezhogin - Koivu - Kovalev

Higgins - Ribeiro - Ryder

Bulis - Bonk - Zednik

Dagenais/Ivanans/Sundstrom - Plekanec - Begin

Perezhogin can keep up with the two top vets Koivu & Kovalev, who in return can carry the line.

Higgins adds speed & defensive awareness to Ribs & Ryder, all the while being able to follow offensively.

Zednik goes back to his natural position and adds offense to the 3rd line. Bulis & Bonk can cover defensively for Zednik.

Plekanec & Begin are great at creating things with their speed & energy. Should rub off anyone who plays on their line.

I agree with almost everything you said.

I wonder of CJ would even consider switching the 4th and 2nd lines for a while.(Except for Ryder and Begin) I am loving our 4th line but they don't play enough.

I don't think it will happen but I would love to see Dags and Ribs go bye-bye.

These are the lines I suggest to remove Dagenais from the roster, assuming that Zednik returns vs. TO.

Zednik-Koivu-Kovalev

Perez-Bonk-Ryder

Higgins-Plekanek-Bulis

Sundstrom-Ribeiro-Begin

Actually Ribeiro doesn't play like a 2nd center. He should be considered a PP specialist and play mostly on the 4th line (until he regains his 2003-2004 shape). Begin and Sundstrom also are specialists, but for PK.

Sincerely our fourth line plays more like a third line, they are dynamic and can counter most of opponent's #1/#2 lines.

What is interesting for Julien is the versatility of some players: Higgins, Begin, Plekanek, can all play either center or wing... it allows much more potential combinations...

If you consider who are the best players on the team right now, you don't have a choice than to rearrange completely Habs lines... :hlogo:

I don't think they will be upsetting the teams veterans and causing a commotion after two games (which they won). Dags might well lose his spot or may in fact have already lost it. Perezhogin should take his spot. I think that will be it for now. I look much more for a gradual change in the lineup as the season wears on if the rookies continue to impress and some vets let down. I don't see any big changes to the line up in week one, especially after two road wins.

Rumors that Ivanans will dress in place of Dagenais on Saturday. Also Ribeiro getting a lecture from Julien at practice. The fun begins!:P

A lecture on what?

I hope it has to do with him being too fancy. He ruins way too many plays by trying to steal the show. He tries to deke every player and only makes passes when they're through his legs or behind the back. I don't like this guy.

Guys, Chill... there are two games gone in the season, we're 2-0 and you're calling for people to be benched or traded? WTF????!:wall::wall: We do need the extra forwards, we have had one injury already and more certain to come and our depth on the farm is not great since they all graduated.

Not to mention that the RRD line scored the GWG for the second straight night...

Give the guys some time. I realize that Dags has some deficencies by I think he will be a valuable role-player for us. Nevertheless, if someone has to sit for Ivanans I think Dags is holding the short straw. Would I ever like to see Ivanans the terrible pound Tie Dummy into submission. :hlogo:

Even thought there are 80 games left the team cannot afford bad defensive lapses around Jose like the last game.

If we go by my "Every Game Counts" theory (which can be found in the Habs/Leafs thread) then we should act as soon as possible. But NOT rashly. Making a move quickly doesn't necessarily mean it was a bad move. If someone decided to trade Dagenais for Ovechkin after one game, would you be against it? If yes, maybe this isn't your site.

hehe..

I think every week we should kick someone else off the team and burn him at the stake! But first shoot a flamethrower at his eyes and blame his death on not wearing visors.

Will the flamethrower be the second victim or just some 'rage with a machine'?

First you burn his eyes and then burn him at the stake. A 1-2 punch, so to speak.

Sounds like a hot idea with a bit more of an afterburn than citrus fruit punch. Any antacid good for that?

weird... I tried a variety words to bring it up:

'antacid', 'ant', 'acid', 'ass', 'id', and a variety of afterburn (different letter combinations, spellings, word arrangements, etc, etc, etc,) nothing... I don't seem to be able to bring it up

by the way, how's your walk coming along?

Whatever you do, pardner, don't fence yourself in. Keep your range wide open and you'll roam all over the glories of the halls of fame.

Do you not have something intelligent to say. The air is pretty thin up there on your perch. Get off your high horse and comment on this....

Dagenais should sit this one out... he has already shown himself to be a defensive liability. I forsee Plekanec taking his spot on the second line. Ivanans will play on fourth line.

Congrats on reaching the Hall of Fame... to bad its gotten to your head.

Gentlemen, I have nothing against a trade of Dags...however, given his recent performance and possible benching, what, or even who, exactly do you think we get in return? Certainly not a top prospect like Ovechekin. And Bullis the Habbie, if I remember your de We got not much for Hossa, who I at least, rated above Dags.

My point was give the team time to gell--- and I'm not referring to Ribs' hairdo. Two games isnt enough time to evaluate the talent fully. If Dags needs to sit for Ivanans, great as I've already said

It seems that everytime someone expresses a dissenting opinion, people get angry. You might not agree with what i say but I have a right to express it according to the rules of the board. And I for one find Shortcat's nonsense entertaining and his serious posts well- thought out. Lighten up already.

Bullis the Habbie, if I remember your details correctly, I've been a dedicated Habs fan for many years before you were born so I dont think you have the right to tell me that i should find another forum to express my opinions if they go against prevailing "wisdom" :nono:

Dude you are way out of line. Bullis the Habbie may be a young fella, but he sure has me beat when it comes to Habiblical discussions. He is a prodigy... his prose is nothing short of that of a true poet. He words enlighten and move those who reads them.

If he's says you should go I right behind him fella.

As for Shortcat you haven't had to live with him for twenty some ODD years.

P.s. I love ya dad
