Interesting, although either one could in theory retire.

A lot of teams will have cap space and a yen for Sakic. Montreal is in a relatively good position, but has a few important components to resign next year and might not quite have the dough.

I'm having trouble putting together a credible lineup with him, though I'd imagine we'd manage.

For some reason, albeit the salary cap and Kovalev I can't get my head around Montreal making huge acquisitions like that.

They could very well both resign with Colorado before they ever become free agents. By droping the option the Avs saved 700,000$ in cap space this year (cause its the average of a player's salary throughout his contract that counts for each year and the option year -which counts in this average- was at a higher amount). So they get an extra 700,000$ cap wiggle room this year and the players don't lose anything.

For all we know the Avs might just re-offer the same amount as the option prior to year's end, but as a seperate contract......that way they just got the extra wiggle room this year for "free". Sakic for one has already expressed his desire to finish his career with the Avs organization and I think that that is a very very strong possibility. Blake may be one to potentially move but we should remember that he will be 36 next year.

That was a great move by Pierre because it allows us to re-sign them for lower next year. Both guys already stated they would be willing to sign for lower amounts to give the Avs some more cap room so declining their options allows that. Don't get your hopes up guys, they aren't going anywhere.

So Mr. Colorado fan Extreme you had a personal conversation with both men and their families? hahhahaha, only kidding you jetsniper. I believe Sakic will finish there but dont count on blake. Remember his last team then he was gone? Promises, wanting to stay, yada yada yada....

Colorado has some good defenceman right now so a blake loss would not be horrific. Plus after watching him play last season and a litle bit this year, I dont think he is a $7million guy any more. What will happen is Colorado will offer less and he will probably take it to finish his career there. I find it funny on TSN website where the Leaf flock are guaranteeing both guys to Toronto. hehehehehehehe they really do live in a fantasy world.

P.S. Joe Sakic makes EVERYBODY look good and any talented Montreal Canadien forward would be fabulous on his line. His linemates Svatos and Wolinski play well with him. Now if Colorado stopped late combacks they would be first in their division instead of shooting for the bottom.

Most great veterans like to play with one team for their entire careers. "It makes it more special" said Martin Brodeur after he was asked whether he wanted to finish his career in New Jersey. Blake has already played with another team for many years (the team he gained his renown in) and it might not bother him as much to leave. I highly doubt any are going to Montreal.

lmao, Blake actually said he liked the Denver area and since his career is winding down he doesn't want to pack up his family for only 1 or 2 more season. If he keeps up his play the way it is, he might just retire after this season. It was all in the Denver Post in the offseason.

You don't even have to hear from Sakic, you know he'll stay there. We matched the Rangers back in '97 and kind of confirmed our loyalty to Burnaby Joe. He'll repay us and re-sign for next to nothing. Well to next to nothing in Joe's world which is like...3 mil. We can go re-sign another offensive d-man so we don't have crap like Boughner out there.

Good one about the Leafs, they had a big list in THN Yearbook about guys who were rumored to go to Toronto, it was hilarious. And after the 4-3 lost to Nashville and last night's loss to LA, I'm not pleased with our ability to put a team down and out. Seems we can only get them down.

Actually, if there is a chance at signing another big name player to take the pressure off him, Joe "the Cup Deliverer" Sakic probably would sign for less. I could see a $4M or $4.5M contract. This would free up room to get another goaltender.

As much as I like Mr. Aebischer, he is starting to do too much and making bonehead plays like the puck giveaway the other night. Brutal play I expect from Belfour in Toronto. Oh ya, Belfour gave the Habs a goal that way..

Defensively, Colorado is fine. Offensively, they lost a lot over the years and now they are paying due to the cap.:contract: If goaltending becomes a big question mark like I think it is right now, this will really hurt.

Just my 2 cents. :)

Eh, word around Avs Land is that our D is worse off. We're still scoring like we used to with Hejduk out of the lineup and Sakic and Tangs not quite at the top of their game yet. We're getting huge contributions from Svatos, Wolski, Laaksonen, Konowalchuk.

Blake and Vaananen are having trouble with the new rules so far, getting lots of holding and interference calls. Boughner is a waste of a roster spot. The only bright spot is Liles who is having a hell of a season and, according to tsn.ca, is on pace for a 113 point season and something like 82 goals :D (Wishful thinking, I know)

I knew it would happen and we're really missing Foote. If anyone could set the tone for a game, he could. If good ol' Footer is in the lineup instead of Boughner or Sauer, Nashville and Los Angeles don't stage their comebacks. And from what I saw, that stupid goal seemed to be more Blakes fault then Aebi. Although the Nashville game was Aebi's fault for slugging that guy in the head. Budaj looks like a capable NHL starter right now, he played a lights out game against the Hawks last Friday and I think Q should give him another look against the Oilers tomorrow or the Mother Canuckers on Saturday.

Btw, I have to add in. I like this topic. It gives me a place here to vent about the Avs. :D

I heard, on RDS TV this morning, an article on this topic. It was added that Sakic has stated that he wants to play out his career in Colorado.

Hey I call the as I see them. Advantage NHL Centre Ice. I watched the bonehead goal and it was a goaltender passing the puck. Blake was on another planet at the time...

Watching Colorado/Edmonton tonight and Liles 3 points so far tonight. 3 - 0 Avs in the first.

I think Avs fans just have to calm down about their defence as it is not that bad. Losing Foote was big and they have to adjust. After 20 games I may agree with you, but right now from the games I have watched, they are no worse than any other GOOD team.

The Avs have an average defence at best. They have no amazing players (Blake in My NHL?) and they have some useless guys like Boughner and mistake-prone guys like Brisebois. It's not usually a good sign that a rookie (is he?) is leading your pack of defenceman. Maybe they should reach out for Niinima.

Liles is a sophomore and Brisebois has been on fire for us. Definitely not the same guy who played for the Habs.

And Howie, you were right. I got another look at it today and Aebi just kept it going past Blake. Blake had "wtf" look on his face after the goal.

Ya I watched that game and it was strange. Like the one tonight with Colorado dominating then Laraque doing his bonehead poking Brad May in the eye. should of been third man in and GAME for Him.

Colorado's defense is not average, they are a small step above that. Would I say good... ask me 20 games into the season. Most teams in the league are looking average or a little above from the games I have seen. Yes some teams like Florida, Ottawa are playing pretty good defensively, but not really as impressive as the old Wings and the old Avs teams. I think the cap has now limited how many good Defensman a team can afford.

Hey Hejduk just scored. 4 - 0!

Yeah, thats 2 point for Duke in his debut. Good to see the regular version of him is back. I thank the Flames for tiring this team out.

I think RIGHT NOW our defense is average. Like I've said before, Blake and Vaananen still need to adjust but they should be fine. Liles and Brisebois have been on fire and Sauer seems to be doing ok as the 6th man.

Ya Brisebois isn't playing like the Breezer anymore but he'll probably show hints of it at random points during the season. I doubt his giveaways are completely gone.

Woah! I'm watching the higlights. What a shot by Liles!

I really like Sauer. And Brisebois is probably wondering where all the Boobirds are. Not used to hearing people cheer him on.

Amazing how someone plays better when they dont have a whole arena booing them. Avs knew when they signed him that he was not a defensive specialist.

3 points in 6 games and +2 is pretty good for someone washed up in Montreal. I was not his biggest fan but I would never Boo him....

Wow what happened to this game, really slowed down in the second except for Sakic-Hejduk-Tanguay line....

Didn't stop Lindros from scoring a pair.

By the way, your hero, Ehrhoff, made a bonehead play and injured his own goalie, Vesa Toskala. He collided with him and slid him from the crease hard into the boards behind the net.

So you judge a players career on two goals?

Ah! No. But It just goes to hsow that Eric Lindros gets booed EVERY game EVERY time he touches the puck by EVERY fan in the building. Are you telling me that if he played in an empty building he'd be a great player? The two goals are because here is where he gets booed most yet he scored twice on us and was the best player on the team.
