GHT120
Habs sign McNiven to one-year two-way deal Michael and Demchenko look like they are in a battle to back-up Primeau (assuming there is a AHL season ... which GMs have to do at this point). End of the line for Charlie Lindgren? IMO he was overrated when he got his first real chance because, like Mete, he was one of the few positive stories from 2017-18 ... wonder if they will loan him to Europe or try to deal him? tomh009
They'll need to extend someone beyond next summer in order to make a (signed) goalie available in the expansion draft. Demchenko is exempt and Price has NMC, so it would need to be one of McNiven, Lindgren -- or Allen.

They needed to move Lindgren before this deal happened. This only cements the need to trade him.

Looks like McNiven will be a 21/22 RFA which is all the expansion rules require ... the Habs will just need to issue his qualfying offer before the draft. tomh009
I do like McNiven's perseverance (through stints four different RCHL teams!) and he's made the most of his limited opportunities, at least recently. Is he good enough to have NHL potential? Maybe yes, maybe no -- he is still young, and goalie evaluation pretty much needs an ouija board anyway! So, for me, this is a thumbs-up move.
