Took his qualifying offer, gets him to arbitration next summer.  I'm surprised he went that route this fast.  It gives Montreal a bit more money to work with in free agency but by the time they fill out their roster and leave some cushion to work with, it's still not a lot.

I know non-arbitration RFAs have really limited negotiating power, but the dude has been a good soldier for the Habs for 3 seasons playing everywhere from the top pairing LD to third pairing RD. How do you not get even a bit of extra "thank you" money?

That is a pre-cap concept ... in many ways it is sad that it is lost ... but business is business in the modern NHL
