Go habs go!

I'm sorry, that just won't do. Please subtract 1 goal from the Habs.

Canadiens captain Saku Koivu and his younger brother, Mikko, will face off tonight for the first time in their professional careers as Montreal tries to snap a six-game road losing streak as they wrap up a quick two-game road trip at the Xcel Center against the Minnesota Wild.

It will be a large family reunion as their entire family will be attending the game.

Saku was taken by the Canadiens in the 1993 NHL Draft and has emerged as one of the team's most popular players of all time. Mikko was selected sixth overall by the Wild in 2001 and is playing in his first NHL campaign.

The elder Koivu is returning to the lineup after missing five games with a groin injury and stomach flu.

The Canadiens are 0-4-2 in their last six road games since a 3-2 win Nov. 4 at Buffalo and have been outscored 24-12 in that span. They are coming off a 5-3 defeat Thursday at Edmonton, where they yielded three third-period goals and had only three shots on net the final 20 minutes.

Montreal again likely will be without right wing Alexei Kovalev and centre Radek Bonk. All three are injured, and while Michael Ryder has scored a goal in three consecutive games, Canadiens coach Claude Julien knows Ryder can't shoulder the load alone.

"We need some better efforts from certain individuals," Julien said. "Our penalty killers were tired guys at the end."

Montreal has a home game Tuesday against Ottawa before going on a five-game road trip that carries them until the end of the year.

The Wild's offensive struggles continued in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins. Minnesota is 2-5-2 in its last nine games despite getting outscored only 23-21 in that span.

"We got a lot of chances, just couldn't capitalize," said Wild right wing Alexandre Daigle, who has just three goals this season after scoring 20 in the 2003-04 season. "That's the story of the last nine, 10 games. It seems every bad break, we get them."

Minnesota scored both its goals Thursday on the power play, continuing its strong play. The Wild have scored a power-play goal in five straight games, going 7-for-29 in that span. They also lead the league in penalty killing at 88.8 percent.

ST. PAUL – Following their first loss when leading after 40 minutes Thursday in Edmonton, the Canadiens (16-9-5) will look to snap a six-game road slide when they visit the Minnesota Wild tonight. It’s the second game of a quick two-game road trip, which opened up with a 5-3 loss to the Oilers two nights ago.

The Wild (12-15-4), for their part, dropped a 3-2 decision to the Boston Bruins Thursday night in St. Paul. It was the third straight home-ice loss for Jacques Lemaire’s crew, who is now 7-6-1 at the Xcel Energy Center this season.

Tonight’s contest is just the sixth all-time between these two clubs since the Wild joined the NHL just prior to the 2000-01 season. Montreal and Minnesota have split the previous five meetings, with the Canadiens and Wild each winning twice and a tie. Claude Julien’s troops won the last meeting, a 3-2 final in Minnesota on January 29, 2004.

Brotherly Love: Saku Koivu, who will be returning to the Canadiens’ lineup tonight, will face his younger brother Mikko for the first time in his career. The elder Koivu missed the last five games with a groin injury before being sidelined with the flu. The Canadiens’ captain still leads the team with 26 points. Mikko, in his rookie season with the Wild, has scored four goals and added five assists in his first 16 NHL games.

Habs history: The Wild have four former Canadiens among their hockey personnel, all of whom played with Montreal during its dominant years in the 1970s. Head coach Jacques Lemaire, Assistant Coach Mario Tremblay, General Manager Doug Risebrough and Amateur Scout Guy Lapointe won a combined 23 Stanley Cups with the historic franchise. The Canadiens also count on former players within their hockey personnel, with GM Bob Gainey and Assistant Coach Doug Jarvis having also been a part of the 1970s dynasty. Gainey and Jarvis combined for nine championships over their careers in Montreal.

Flavor of the month: With the return of NHL hockey to Minnesota in 2000-01, the Wild introduced a new tradition whereby a new team captain would be named each month. Having shown his leadership qualities in November, defenseman Willie Mitchell was given the honor of the “C” on his jersey for December.
