hab29RETIRED
They need to make some lineup changes. Tampa’s a big skilled team. Gustafson is useless. Get Romanov in. Take out Stall too slow - Evans looked better), and get Armia in. Maybe even consider Tatar. Caufield is the only one even TRYING to get the quick shot and away. Can’t give Vasilenskiy time to set. brobin
Honestly.. I don’t see any positives out of that… instead of pushing back and building some momentum they got pushed around and the score run up… they need to forget this one and make adjustments.. Commandant
Vegas took the first game by a big score too. Make your adjustments and come back in game 2.

alfredoh2009
It was code for two periods but turnovers cost them Habs need a full team effort, no revenge hits after the whistle or dirty hits. Petry had a turn k we that cost a goal and later went for a big hit and took himself out of position Anderson seemed more focused on being an enforcer than creating scoring chances Caufield was a boy among men Price was beatable tonight, human. ====== Habs need to make adjustments and find an extra level

Some weird goals. The interim between Games One and Two will be critical for the coaching staff. They will need to make the right adjustments. The Habs’ giveaways at the line are atypical for this group in the playoffs - I’m pretty sure that is the result of something in the TB game plan. We need to adapt. I still think we are a team of destiny. But we do need to make adjustments. They can’t hope to score mainly off the breakaway pass. They also can’t keep having the same setup sit in your zone on the PP. Tampa’s ding exactly what time did to us after the first 10 games. Clog the middle and stand up at the blue line. Should also try and get more speed and skill in the lineup and drop the so-called PP “specialist” Gustafson.

Whether or not Gustaffsopn is useless, having a defenceman you you can only play for 6:57 at 5-on-5, 4:24 of that when desperate for offence in the third period, is a burden on the other 5 ... really the other four. I would be shocked if Armia isn't in for Game 2 ... but not certain it will be at Staal's expense ... even if he seems perhaps the most obvious means ... do not see Tartar getting in (absent injury) ... not only did he end the season playing poorly andplay his way out of the lineup in 5 games, but TBL are hitting as much as the Habs were and that is not a style best suited to Tartar. Habsfan89
It's safe to say we got out coached in this one. If we don't find away to get away from cooper's match up game we're not going to win in Tampa.

Prime Minister Koivu
Like Commandant said, we lost to Vegas big in game one. We will make adjustments. Tampa was great at boxing us out and that Sergachev guy is really, really good. We need to be much better in the neutral zone and turnovers are death. Hoping Armia is back - we need his board work. Our Dzone play needs to be much simpler and tighter. Just collapse and box them out. Ducharme will make some changes Go Habs Go

Agree - and also about putting Romanov in. The problem with removing Gustafson, though, is that the PP started working when he was inserted. Now I know it didn’t work last night, but I worry that subtracting him means subtracting the only guy other than Petry who can move/pass a puck, especially on the PP. That game did resemble Game One against Vegas, in a lot of ways. One thing I noticed right away was that the Habs’ ‘active sticks’ weren’t working; they were just a fraction too late, or a fraction too hurried, in making the in-tight plays that they’ve been winning all playoff long. That happened in Game One in the Semi-Finals too. Another similarity is the Habs’ tendency to miss the net with shots. I remember being frustrated at how they kept doing that against Fleury early in that series. So, this group has been here before and risen to the challenge. That’s the good part. The not-so-good part - not to be a Gloomy Gus - is that Vegas came within a fraction of winning Game Two as well, and only an epic gaffe by Fleury with one minute left turned the tables. The defending Cup champs are unlikely to gift us such a chance. These Habs are like mountain climbers who have conquered all the great peaks and now stand at the base of Everest. Can they make this last, epic ascent??
DON
Suzuki had tough night on faceoffs, on 2nd goal he think he and KK didnt cover scorer. But, is smart player and experience is what it is. KK took a selfish penalty, dumb 20 yr old made TB player smile. Dont think 19 shots will cut it.

One difference I saw in this game, the Habs throughout the playoffs have largely been the antagonizers and left the post whistle scuffles with a smirk. Last night, the tables were turned. Hopefully the frustration subsides and they can get back to playing as they have been. They got off their game and let TB get to them, at least that's the view from this chair. titanfan
I'm glad this group didn't coach after game 1 in the Vegas series. Last night sucked. We lost. ONE GAME! Oh wait, we did that against Vegas too. Here is what happened - simple... Tampa scored first! We had to play catch up. Not our strength. We were doing ok - then Chiarot made a mistake. It happens, but he did. He waved at a puck with his glove IN FRONT of the net. If he doesn't it goes harmlessly into the corner. Instead it is up for grabs...then he swings at it with his stick...and he knocks it into the net. 3-1 now! Momentum gone. From that point on the Habs not only PLAYED CATCHUP -they panicked! Stopped playing THEIR game and Tampa took advantage of their chances. A great shot by Kucherov (who, by the way, earned every penny of his salary this season OVER the cap due to a loophole that will be closed.... But I digress.) Then Tampa gets a late PP goal. So, we can say a lot of things - none of them good. WE LOST. PRICE GAVE UP 5 GOALS! OUR PK STREAK ENDED But: We've lost Game 1 before - to Vegas and to LA back in '93 3 of those 5 goals came in the third period when we were trying to play 'desperate' catch up. We'll never be successful that way - but we HAD to TRY last night because that is where we were. You sure don't give up! Our PK streak doesn't matter. What matters is that we KILL THE NEXT PK and the one after that. It was the 5th goal in a 5-1 loss, with just over a minute to go. A meaningless goal. So - don't panic! Don't change the lineup! Get back to basics. Watch the tape. Adjust. Be ready. And win game 2! Gustafsson is fine. He provides extra push on the PP (and we have needed that FOR YEARS). Whoever plays that 5 or 6 D spot will get minimal minutes. The Top 4 horses are what got us here! Why change now? Unless there is an injury or a Covid issue. Change out Staal? Seriously - that 4th line, led by the two vets, is crucial to our success! Maybe you swap Armia back in for Evans. Perry is a beast and he has chemistry with Staal and Armia. Let's get some of that back! So, get the beer on ice! Have the wings ready to go! Put on your lucky Habs shirt. And enjoy Game 2. We may not be in the Stanley Cup finals again for a VERY long time! Go Habs Go!!! 2
