Based on Bergevin’s track record I think there is zero chance we sign Deangelo.

At least I hope not

He wanted him at the deadline is the part that scares me.

But things have significantly changed since

Savard as a 3rd pair RD behind Petry and Weber = sign him

Savard as the 2nd pair RD = you got to be kidding

Bergevin's interest in bringing in known assholes is a bit unnerving:

Slava Voynov

Mike Hoffman

Tony Deangelo

and I feel like I'm forgetting another...

Regardless, #CHaracter.

Kassian? (Not that he’s an a-hole but was more of a risk on the character side)

Ott… semin (the washed up lazy ass version),… Scott (albeit he wasn’t really brought in to play at the NHL level).

He was an a-hole until he went into rehab.

Neither Semin or Scott had off-ice issues like Voynov, DeAngelo or Hoffman.

Say what you want about them being washed up on the ice... but it wasn't an off-ice issue.

Agreed. But Scott was a meathead with zero skill (despite him being an NHL all star game MVP - about as biggest indictment of the all star game that you can make). when he was with the Sabres, taking incredibly cheap shots. Ott wasn’t as useless in his “prime” but was still a cheap shot prick.

semin was a complete floater when he was actually productive, don’t know why you’d want to bring in a guy who already had zero work ethic, when he was washed up.

So yeah - no stupid off ice issues. But not exactly guys to improve the culture or character if your team.

Wasn't the Hoffman issue with his wife misbehaving, rather than Hoffman himself? Or do I misremember this?

When your significant other is actively mocking your teammate's wife for a miscarriage, you get a bit of a reputation by association.

I did some searching on this back when he was a free agent and I had a hard time finding anything about whether or not he stayed with that psycho. It sounded like he dumped her, but I couldn't find anything concrete. But given that he was run out of Ottawa, I'm guessing it wasn't something where he condemned her actions and dropped her immediately.
