THIS IS NOT PROOF OF ANYTHING ... JUST AS A HAT TRICK WOULD NOT BE EITHER

In Shane Wright's first game, a 5-4 overtime loss against LOTTERY-contender Anaheim, he got 6:14 TOI (fewest on the Kraken), none in an admittedly short (0:55) O/T ... he was behind Wennberg (20:46), Gourde (16:51) and fellow rookie Matty Berniers (19:55, but admittedly MB is 14 months older) ... he took only 3 faceoffs (1/3) in 11 shifts ... if this doesn't change, he might well be better off in Kingston ... he did miss a full OHL season due to the Covid closure.

STILL PROVES NOTHING

Wright a healthy scratch in the second game of the season ... Kingston fans must be starting to hope.

Was this a shot at Drouin by Hughes?

“If we see a player needs to be in Laval for his development, he’ll be in Laval, regardless of what the coaches think,” said Hughes. “But if a young player is playing well and will challenge a veteran on the last year of a deal, we have to be fair to the room as well. If we played someone just to put them in a showcase, it would be unfair for the room. We’ll have to find a balance. ”

By the way, their third-stringer got hurt last night, the fourth-stringer is recovering from surgery, and the fifth-stringer is in Sweden.  It could be an EBUG situation if Murray can't dress as the backup.

Kallgren dressed.

Hoffman simply dosent ever inspire much out there (granted he has awesome release on shot) and not sure any Habfan would miss him one iota if he was gone tomorrow.

But, other end of spectrum, Harris seems to doing just fine and am guessing majority of folks like what have seen so far from this fella.

I like his and Guhle's mobility.

Hoffman is a bit frustrating…he’s a limited player but has always been a reliable offensive producer. He is in an environment with a coach who is not some anal-retentive “systems” guy but lets players run in the O-zone. He should be doing well on a terrible team with no expectations; players of his profile usually do thrive in such environments.

It looks to me like we signed a UFA right at the moment where his decline had begun. He’s 32, maybe a has-been is all he’ll ever be going forward.

So the Habs have Drouin ($5.5m), Hoffman ($4.5m) and Dadonov ($5m) all not playing good enough to have a spot in the lineup.  At least 2 of those deals are in their final year.  If Hoffman can get going so at least he’s trade-able, that would be great.

No doubt.  I have really liked what I have seen from Harris and Guhle.  They are both excellent skaters which is so important in today's NHL.  They will make mistakes as all rookie defensemen do but I expect both to be NHL regulars for a long time.

To the eye test they both have seemed 'ok', so far and fancy stats seem to back their play.

https://theathletic.com/3700764/2022/10/17/canadiens-sean-monahan-kirby-dach/?source=dailyemail&campaign=601983

..."the combination of Kirby Dach and Sean Monahan up front is putting up some incredible underlying numbers. With the two of them on the ice at five-on-five, the Canadiens have controlled nearly 70 percent of the shot attempts, 63.3 percent of the shots on goal and 73.3 percent of the expected goals. All of that has only resulted in a 1-0 advantage in actual goals"...

Agree with what he says, but notice there is no similar article about the Québécois Drouin🙄

Drouin's deal is expiring at least, so we could likely dump him at the deadline.

Hoffman was a panic signing, but at least he'll be off the books after next season and won't get in the way of our rebuild too much.

As much as I hated the Hoffman signing (don’t get why the character GM would go after a guy like Hoffman after what happened in Ottawa🙄), at least Hoffman only costed us cap space at a time we were gong to suck anyway. Drouin on the other hand, costed us a really, really good dman.

I just had a horrible thought ... Leafs flame out in first round again (THAT isn't the horrible thought) ... Dubas gets fired, maybe Shanahan too (That isn't it either) ... Arizona wins the draft lottery (disappointing but not horrible) ... here it is ... the new Leafs GM addresses their salary cap issues by trading Matthews to Arizona for the first overall pick and takes Bedard ..............

Problem is it will also cost cap space this season and next season, when HuGo could use the flexibility.
