Prime Minister Koivu
This list was posted by the official NHL account and I don’t know who made the list and the rankings are open for debate. When you do look at this list, does Canada look like the best?

Its to be able to market the tournament, assuming they arent injured these 24 players are on tournament rosters.

I assume Marchand being named is more a sign of respect than his "ranking" on a possible final roster.

All 4 of them have good rosters
Prime Minister Koivu
He is going to sign in Toronto isn’t he? Lowball offer though
tomh009
He's surely not playing until he's 42 though--is that basically paying him a $6Mx4y, and then he takes LTIR for the last four years, to spread out the cap hit? Or they buy him out? If it's real, I'm really not surprised Stamkos declined.

I might suspect it was a front-loaded contract with the assumption that as the floor and ceiling increase in the next few years there will be a team looking for some "free"* cap hit in years 6-8 (if necessary). * - i.e., $8M AAV but lower real$$$ salary. Your cap hit on any contract where younare over 40 years of age is the actual salary played that year So if he signed an 8 year deal his hits would be Years 1-6: total money over those years divided by 6 Year 7 and 8, salary in that season. Thanks ... live and learn ... of course I assume that also make a buyout cheaper as there is not "cap advantage recovery".

dlbalr
Mikhail Sergachev to Utah for JJ Moser, Conor Geekie, a 2nd rounder, and another late pick (199?). That's a whopper but that will give TB some flexibility to re-sign Stamkos now and afford the pricey Hedman extension that appears to be coming. And now Utah has a defenceman under contract...(well, aside from Weber). Kevin Hayes and a future second-round pick to PIT for future considerations (a two-year cap dump). John Marino and 153 to Utah for two second-round picks. Make that two blueliners under contract. Tanner Jeannot to LA for 118 and a 2025 second. That's a lot less than they gave up to get him. dlbalr
Logan Thompson to Washington for two third-round picks. Nice move for them, odd one for Vegas to move a pretty good goalie who costs less than the minimum for futures. That cuts away from the cap space that they already don't have. Traded at 9:50am local. 10am autograph signing session for the golden knights at the Draft. Can’t make this up.
REV-G
I think the NHL has made a big mistake. Where and how? By changing their draft day format starting next year. Many of you may not agree with me on this next statement, but I haven't watched an all star game for many many years. I think they're a waste of fan's time. But that's just my opinion. However I have watched every draft for many years and I thought last night's draft at The Sphere rivalled any draft from any sport that I've watched. I'm biased but I think Montreal hit a home run with what they did and how they did it. I'm sure the draft had many many of their fans watching to see if there would be trades, any teams moving up or down and who would get what players, and there were many surprises, starting with who Montreal introduced to announce their first pick. Brilliant! Everyone loved it. I remember watching Juri Slafkovsky's shocked face last year, and his family's, when he was drafted first by us and the uncomfortable situation with Shane Wright. But it's why we watch. It's real, human emotion with both excitement and disappointment. I had to laugh last night when they showed the shocked looks on the faces of Beckett Sennecke and his family when he was selected #3. And what a touching story with our 2nd pick Michale Hage. All of that was shown and filmed because everyone was together and celebrating in one place, once a year. To lose all that, and to show what I think will be a sterile war room with a bunch of people sitting around a table, that's what they think is going to be better?? I think last night's draft coverage was one of the highlights of the year for many fans and last night was a home run. The publicity for the NHL has to be over the top. They did it very well. And they think shutting all of that down will be better?? What a big mistake, in my mind anyway. What do you think? Agree or disagree? dlbalr
I'm not a fan of the change either but there's still going to be a big get-together and TV spectacle. It's just going to resemble the NBA draft moving forward where the players will be there and will go on stage for a picture but with Bettman only instead of the whole management team. It's not going to be like the COVID draft where it's hosted in a studio.
Commandant
The players being drafted and their families will still attend a central location where the draft is held, much like the NFL and NBA Drafts. You just won't have the teams there, they will send in their picks.
REV-G
I didn't know that. I thought it was going to be like the covid style draft. I still think the present format is better and more of a spectacular event, as last nights was.
dlbalr
Akira Schmid and Alexander Holtz to Vegas for Paul Cotter and a third rounder. Seems like Vegas did quite well here; Holtz's value must have been quite low.

This is exactly the reason why I took my kids to Vegas again this year after attending the draft in Nashville last year. IMO having the team delegations there is the biggest part of the allure as you feel as if you (the casual fan) are in the war zone with your favorite team. You run into team reps in hotel elevators, industry insiders on the street. It’s actually quite magical. On our way back from the sphere yesterday, while we were on the strip my kid turns to me and says “I think I know this guy” so he went up and asked him..

Cotter is showing some improvement and is a pretty good fourth liner but yeah, this is light. Leafs trade for Chris Tanev's rights, Dreger suggesting a 5-7-year deal could be coming to artificially lower the cap hit. (Tampa is trying this with Stamkos as well.) Prime Minister Koivu
#GoBolts acquire the rights to Jake Guentzel from #Canes in exchange for a 2025 3rd Rd Pick. Bolts are really moving on from Stamkos I guess. I hope he signs in Edmonton and nowhere near Toronto. Perhaps Washington or Rangers for Stamkos
