2024 NHL Entry Draft

Recommended Posts

There have been lots of people saying they love Demidov.

I haven't heard the same on Lindstrom.  I haven't heard they don't like him either... but there just hasn't been credible reporting on the interest or lack thereof.

Demidov is the clear one they have their eyes on if they move up, from all I've heard.

They see him in a totally different light to Michkov.  They like Demidov's compete levels at both ends and attitude way more than they did with Michkov.

Somehow strikes me as somewhat click-bait-ish ... bound to get LOTS of attention.

Craig is always different from consensus, but if you look at a real NHL scouts individual lists, they are closer to Craig than to consensus.

Also Helenius at 3 gets a thumbs up from me.

I've said it before, I'm as convinced on Helenius as I was on Quinn Hughes.  He's gonna make it big.

Would you pick Helenius before Lindstrom? But after Demidov?

It's fun to project/guess who the Habs may take at 5, likely a forward, however that will be dependent on who the teams drafting before them take (Captain Obvious statement).  It seems to me that if there is a forward they really want to get (ie Demidov or Lindstrom) then Anaheim is the obvious partner if they want to trade up. Of course, as we have noted, those trades are a rare occurrence.

In the Wheeler/Pronman projection, they think that each of the Chicago, Anaheim and Columbus would choose a D-man (Levshunov, Silayov and Dickinson, respectively), that's how they saw Demidov (and Lindstrom) being available to the Habs.

Should be interesting, next thing is the NHL combine in couple weeks.

Personally he's #2 on my list but its close with Demidov and can see why most have him 2.

Also interesting that Button has Lindstrom at 10, Catton at 14 and Silayev at 16. That's the lowest I have seen those guys. It's going to be a crazy draft, would love to have another top 15 pick but I can see why teams would not want to give up a top 15 pick without an overpay.

I would guess SJ or Chicago might trade their 2nd pick?

Or perhaps someone in the 15-19 range, could use another pick and young d-man?

Not sure why - particularly SJS at 16 - they are both pretty much at the start of a rebuild.

Would Hughes take Demidov over Lindstrom? Would be nice if do have that choice at least.

NHL mock draft 2024: Predicting all 65 picks of the first two rounds with Pronman and Wheeler - The Athletic (nytimes.com)

5. Montreal Canadiens (Pick by Wheeler): Ivan Demidov, RW, SKA St. Petersburg

With a young group of D coming, and a year after taking one at No. 5, the Habs jump on the second-best forward in the class and grab the potential game-breaker they need.

6. Utah (Pick by Pronman): Cayden Lindstrom, C, Medicine Hat

Utah adds a dynamic skating forward with size and bite in Lindstrom who can score goals as well. He could make a great complement one day to Logan Cooley down the middle.

Technically, you guessed right on Chicago.  They just traded up to 18 in an odd pre-draft pick swap with the Islanders (18 and 50 for 20, 54, and 61).

How much farther ahead is Chicago by doing this and without knowing who is still on the board after the 17th pick?

The only thing that I am ready to predict with confidence is that after the first 2-4 picks EVERY general manager will say some version of "We were pleasantly surprised he was still available at <insert pick number>, we had him higher on our list".

BTW: with the apparent lack of consensus in the top half of the draft, THIS YEAR it may actually be true.

They move up 2 in the first and 4 in the second for the cost of 61.

Seems fair value.

You can almost guarantee that will happen.  The old "we didn't think he would be available" happens every year.

The timing is weird, maybe the start of more deals?

I'm half expecting the Islanders to flip one of those second-rounders for a player, effectively getting the player for slightly moving down in the first and second rounds, allowing them to get a piece to help now without hurting their weak prospect pool any further.
