I still think the move up to 21, was simply to increase odds of 'a' better player higher on their list being available and not to target just Hage.

Sure, because at the time of the trade they didn’t know yet who would be available.

 

But of the players they did expect to be available at 21, they clearly thought Hage was the best choice.

I tend to agree, it was surprising Eiserman dropped as far as he did but maybe it wasn't surprising to the scouts. There were obviously some red flags regarding his play. It would have interesting to see if Montreal would have taken Hage had Eiserman been available but we will likely never know.

True, they just didn't know if Hage would be available at 21 so they surely had options, B,C,D and E on the table. The clip of their pre draft meeting provided no insight on who else they may have taken, obviously heavily edited.
