Hopefully Edmonton gets a bump at home. It's going to be tough for the Oilers now. Winning 4 out of 5 from Florida is a tough tough task. Quote
Helmethead Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 They gonna have the pressure of the world on their back in game 3. And Atlas this team ain’t. Quote

DON Posted June 12, 2024 Posted June 12, 2024 Is summer, hope season ends soon, didnt bother watching last game, too nice outside for hockey. Still kinda hope Oilers kick ass at home on Thursday, but if Luongo gets a ring this year, good by me! Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 One thing that Florida is doing is successfully preventing passes by Edmonton. No other team has been able to block Edmonton’s passes like this. Quote
Prime Minister Koivu Posted June 13, 2024 Author Posted June 13, 2024 Interesting stats from the first two games. Edmonton must win tonight or they might get swept Quote
The Chicoutimi Cucumber Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 Oilers aren't playing badly, but Florida makes them pay for every error, and Skinner just isn't good enough relative to Bob - who is playing absolutely superbly. Could be a sweep. I feel badly for McDavid. Quote

Agree and the importance of a deep defensive core is on display. Edmonton gets picked apart for every defensive mistake they make. Quote

It so often comes down to goaltending in the playoffs and this year is no exception. Goaltending has been the difference, the Panthers play with a lot of confidence knowing Bobrovsky won't let in a bad one. Quote

Yes, it really is this simple. Skinner has been mediocre, Bob has been superb. The end. Edmonton’s fate reflects the old truism that you’re only as strong as your weakest link. G is their weakest link and Florida has exploited it. On a secondary level, their D is capable of making occasional lapses; but to my mind, a really strong goalie would make those saves in the clutch. Their D is pretty good IMHO even if Nurse is overpaid. Florida, by contrast, has no weak link that I can see. EDM has been the better team overall but they have an Achilles Heel and they have finally run into a team that made them pay. Quote

They did play better but that is still a statement which exudes a certain level of arrogance. They aren’t built to rope - a - dope. Especially against a team of Florida’s ilk. Quote

They aren’t built to rope - a - dope. Especially against a team of Florida’s ilk. I don't see any arrogance in that statement. Rope a dope is fine when you have a goalie who lets in a bad goal only rarely and not in big game situations. Florida is an excellent all around team and combined with great goaltending makes it a tough combination to beat plus the bitter taste of losing in the final last year has made them even tougher and stronger. The Oilers may win one at home but this series is essentially over as Florida is too smart and hungry to get overconfident now. Bobrovsky is the Conn Smythe trophy winner. Quote
BCHabnut Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 I know the state tax comes up a lot, but I can't help it. The numbers don't lie. The percentage of zero state tax teams in the league vs the percentage that make the semi final is enormous. Bob has been the difference. And Bob is a free player. You can pay 10% less when you don't have a 10% state tax. Quote
